Watch Sylvester Stallone’s Action Gem ‘Demolition Man’ Free on Tubi Now!
The action movie “Demolition Man,” featuring Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes, has now become accessible for free streaming. This 1993 futuristic thriller has been incorporated into Tubi’s action collection, enabling viewers to enjoy this sometimes underestimated film at no cost. However, be prepared for some occasional ads during the viewing experience.
One of Sylvester Stallone’s top action movies, “Demolition Man,” narrates the tale of John Spartan, a tenacious LAPD officer with an unquenchable thirst for apprehending a criminal named Simon Phoenix. In his latest operation, Spartan successfully captures Phoenix, but the destruction caused is catastrophic – innocent hostages lose their lives due to Spartan’s aggressive strategy. As a result, he stands trial alongside Phoenix as a criminal. Ultimately, both men are sentenced to spend eternity frozen in a massive ice block.
Over time, Phoenix undergoes a parole review. With ease, Phoenix manages an escape, leading him to go into hiding in what was once known as Los Angeles, now called San Angeles – a tranquil urban area that Phoenix intends to subdue. The authorities then deliberate on how to handle this situation.
As a passionate cinephile, I find myself in a predicament where the only way to nab Phoenix is by defrosting Spartan. However, the stark contrast between Spartan and a more sterilized, future-oriented environment might prove overwhelming for the veteran officer, given his old-school background. This, according to the movie’s official plot summary.
In the peaceful society of the future, a long-suspended police officer is revived from his frozen state in prison to track down an ancient, brutally violent adversary who has somehow returned to wreak havoc.
The movie was penned by Daniel Waters, Robert Reneau, and Peter M. Lenkov. Debut director Marco Brambilla handled the directing role under the watchful eye of action producer Joel Silver. This marked Brambilla’s first venture in filmmaking, and the preparatory phase presented numerous hurdles. Initially, Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes were hesitant to take on roles in this production, but Lori Petty was chosen as Lenina Huxley initially. However, she was dismissed from the set, and eventually Sandra Bullock stepped into the role of the romantic lead.
After its debut, the movie earned decent box office returns, raking in over $159 million globally. Among Sylvester Stallone’s films from the 1990s, it was one of his highest-grossing (the top spot being held by Cliffhanger, which was also released in 1993). Despite being viewed today as a campy ’90s action film, Demolition Man was generally well-received by critics. It currently holds a 64% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Additionally, Tubi offers a variety of action-packed movies such as “Big Trouble in Little China,” “Kong: Skull Island,” “Run All Night,” the entire “Taken” series, and “White House Down.
‘Demolition Man’: A Great Dystopian Future Movie?
Absolutely, the movie includes a good dose of humor, but Snipe’s jokes can become repetitive at times. However, Demolition Man offers more than just laughs; it subtly comments on society’s perception of progress and its potential flaws. Unlike many action movies from the past, it avoids typical elements like explicit sex scenes and heavy profanity. Despite this, it still manages to be an enjoyable film featuring two genre legends. And if that’s not enough, it’s currently free on Tubi, so it doesn’t get much better than that!
