Since they’ve wrapped up two sold-out shows in Cardiff as part of their massive Live ’25’ reunion tour, you have the chance to enjoy a critically-acclaimed Oasis documentary without cost.
Supersonic” tells the story of the band’s incredible popularity in the 1990s through a mix of interviews and old video clips.
You can now watch it for free, with advertisements, on the Channel 4 streaming platform. Alternatively, for a monthly fee of £3.99 or an annual fee of £39.99, you can enjoy an ad-free experience.
The documentary was a hit with critics, sitting at 84% positive on Rotten Tomatoes from 56 reviews.
The music magazine NME described Supersonic as both stirring and hilarious, while Spanish publication Espinof stated that it may not be the most truthful movie about the band, but it is undoubtedly, perhaps, the finest documentary about a rock group to date.
The New York Times commended it for having “powerful and even emotional scenes,” while Little White Lies described it as an “engrossing glimpse” but regretted that it only covered the story up to 1996, a point that The Guardian criticized as being “overlooked in history’s retelling.
The movie has been rated an average of 7.8 by viewers on IMDb, based on more than 30,000 individual ratings and 41 detailed written reviews submitted by users.
One enthusiast remarked that it’s a ‘must-watch’ for any Oasis devotee, as it features plenty of scarcely seen and never-before-shown footage. This viewer appreciated that it didn’t overemphasize the Gallagher brothers’ feud.
According to another viewer, this movie was genuinely touching due to its authenticity. The portrayal seemed incredibly genuine. After watching it, they felt like they had gotten to know Liam and Noel better and had a deeper understanding of them.
In even the favorable comments, there was mention that the movie seemed more like a promotional piece for brand Oasis, suggesting that the narrative wasn’t fully developed, as critics pointed out.
Currently, a stage production focusing on the Britpop rivalry between Oasis and Blur is under development, featuring a prominent actor from the popular show “Gavin & Stacey” taking on a significant part in the play.
You can now watch “Supersonic” on Channel 4, or alternatively, stream it on the Sundance Now channel within your Amazon Prime Video.
The latest print edition from Digital Spy is available! You can purchase the “Oasis – Live in ’25” issue from newsstands or online, currently retailing for only £8.99.
