Kurt Russell’s “nightmarish” sci-fi horror is now streaming for free.
Originally unveiled in 1982, the movie titled “The Thing” narrates the story of a team of American researchers who encounter a horrifying alien entity during their expedition in the frozen landscapes of Antarctica.
The group quickly find out that the extraterrestrial has the ability to mimic other life forms, causing them to become increasingly terrified and suspicious as they comprehend that anyone among them might actually be The Thing.
Although it didn’t fare well financially when first released, The Thing has since become a favorite among horror enthusiasts and is now recognized as a cult movie icon.
UK fans can now watch the movie for free on the streaming service ITVX.

He is joined by his team, which includes Dr. Blair (portrayed by Wilford Brimley), cook Nauls (T K Carter), Dr. Copper (Richard Dysart), geologist Norris (Charles Hallahan), and chief mechanic Childs (Keith David).
Referring to it as a “masterpiece”, the film “The Thing” garnered an impressive 85% rating from 87 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics were particularly impressed with director John Carpenter’s creation of a chilling atmosphere and fast-paced narrative.
In a review by RadioTimes, it is pointed out that the film “Carpenter’s ET” places an excessive emphasis on its grotesque alien aspect, potentially overshadowing elements such as character development, mood, and almost everything else. However, this very unsettling aspect is what makes the film such captivating science fiction. In comparison to the terrifying visuals presented in “Alien”, those in this movie are unparalleled. Therefore, viewers should be prepared for a frightening experience.
Empire stated that ‘The Thing’ is an unmatched masterwork of unyielding suspense, overwhelming visual intensity, and pure, despair-inducing terror. It tells the story of 12 men stationed in Antarctica as a shape-shifter gradually takes control of them one by one.
