Weddings have often been known to tear families apart as relationships are tested.
Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty and his fiancée, Holly Ramsay, are reportedly having a difficult time with Peaty’s mother, Caroline. She has been disinvited from their wedding, according to recent reports.
For months, it’s been clear that Adam was becoming increasingly disconnected, especially from his mother, Caroline.
As someone who’s followed the Peaty and Ramsay situation closely, I’m hearing it’s not just about what’s been publicly reported. Apparently, there are deeper, more significant issues within the Peaty family itself that are really at the root of this whole falling out. It’s more complicated than people realize, and these problems are pretty serious.
Someone close to the situation has shared that Holly and Adam have received serious threats of violence, and the police are now investigating. Reports surfaced on Wednesday that Adam, visibly upset, was met by police officers in uniform when he returned to the UK from a bachelor party in Budapest.
In 2024, Adam publicly thanked his fiancée, Holly, and the Ramsay family for their support of his athletic achievements, but notably didn’t mention his own mother.

He was thinking about earning a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, a significant achievement after stepping away from competitive swimming to overcome struggles with alcoholism and depression.
Adam described Holly as amazing, saying she’s been essential to reaching a point of peace and finding a deep, genuine love based solely on their connection.
He added to The Times: ‘It’s great and I look forward to the future’.
Adam Peaty’s revealing interview, headlined ‘How Religion and the Ramsays Saved Me,’ surprisingly didn’t mention his own family.
Adam praised the support he received from the Ramsay family, especially Gordon, who he credits with motivating him to achieve success.
He spoke highly of his family, describing them as incredibly supportive, welcoming, and loving people.
I’ve been thinking about this person lately, and it’s interesting how often we don’t talk about the impact on families when someone is going through a tough time. His mother, Caroline, actually shared with me how heartbroken she was seeing him struggle with his mental health – it was a really difficult period for her too, and she carried a lot of pain watching him go through it. It just highlights how important it is to remember the whole picture and support everyone involved.
In a 2024 interview with the BBC, Caroline shared that she’d seen a change in her son while he was taking a break and expressed her hope that he’d return to swimming to regain a sense of routine.

She explained that his time away made him feel like a lost son, comparing him to Adam and describing him as someone they’d missed along the way.
He used to be extremely focused on his swimming, keeping to himself and prioritizing it over family. It was his absolute priority, and he felt it needed to be.
Honestly, seeing him now just fills me with joy. He finally seems truly happy, like he’s exactly where he’s meant to be. It’s such a relief knowing he feels safe and secure, and he’s finally prepared for whatever comes next – as prepared as anyone can be, really.
It’s always hard when your child is struggling, no matter their age. Adam is doing much better now, and I honestly believe he’s happier and healthier than he used to be. This time apart has really been good for him.
I’ve been following Adam’s journey for a while now, and it’s incredible! It’s amazing to think he used to be afraid of the water, but he started swimming at our local club in Uttoxeter. He was a natural and quickly broke all the records! It wasn’t long before he was scouted and invited to join the City of Derby Swimming Club at just 14 years old for some really serious training. I knew he was special from the start!
I’ve been following Adam’s journey closely, and while his recent progress is fantastic, it meant a lot more travelling for everyone. His dad can’t drive, so it ended up being Caroline who did almost all the driving and commitment to get him to training – she really stepped up!
She remembered a grueling routine: waking up at four AM, driving her son 40 minutes to Derby for training, waiting for two hours – sometimes by going to Tesco – then driving him home and completing a full day’s work as a nursery manager. They would repeat this process again in the evenings.
‘I’ve always hated driving, my husband doesn’t drive, and I was so tired all the time.
‘But Adam’s willpower was stronger than mine and he’d say, ‘Come on Mum, no staying in bed.”
Growing up, things were often financially difficult for my family. But our amazing neighbours always stepped up! They’d organize barbecues and Christmas parties right in the street, and use the money to help my dad with gas expenses when he travelled to compete in his national sporting events. It meant the world to us – they really made it possible for him to pursue his passion.
Adam’s parents were also said to have gone into debt as a result of funding his career.

Adam eventually received funding from the National Lottery, starting at about £15,000 per year and now reaching £30,000.
Caroline’s vacations always centered around Adam’s racing schedule. She didn’t get to travel internationally until the Rio Olympics, as she’d previously used all her vacation time to follow Adam’s races within the UK.
Her trip to Brazil was definitely memorable, as Adam won gold in the Men’s 100m Breaststroke and silver in the Men’s 4 x 100m Medley Relay.
When he accepted his medal on stage, Caroline was visibly crying tears of joy, enthusiastically cheering him on with her husband, Mark.
Adam’s coach, Melanie, immediately acknowledged the strain on his family, noting that the constant travel to and from Derby was incredibly stressful for them.
People underestimated his potential at first. They questioned my decision to have him train at such an early hour – 4am swimming seemed unusual! But his family has consistently supported him and played a vital role in his achievements.
Their relationship now seems to be falling apart. It came out on Monday that Adam has forbidden Caroline from coming to the wedding, following a disagreement sparked by Holly not inviting Caroline’s mother to her bachelorette party.

A source close to the Peaty family said it appeared Adam felt his parents, who worked in childcare and as caretakers, weren’t considered suitable companions for his new partner.
Honestly, it’s been so sad to watch Holly change. She’s grown up surrounded by fame, but her parents are really down-to-earth, and it’s like it’s gone to her head. She just doesn’t seem like the sweet, approachable person everyone used to adore anymore. It’s a real shame.
Oh my god, I just heard from someone close to Caroline, and she’s absolutely heartbroken! Apparently, this whole falling out has completely blindsided her, and she’s just desperately trying to figure out what went wrong. It’s awful, just awful to think of her feeling this way!
Adam is having serious problems with his parents, Mark and his mother, and she’s decided not to attend his wedding.
She was eager to help and had volunteered to create beautiful name cards for the table, since she’s very crafty, but she was informed her assistance wasn’t required.
Over time, their relationship has deteriorated, leading to arguments and a lot of tension. Caroline is devastated and deeply saddened by how things have turned out.
It’s really sad to see Caroline and Mark’s relationship fall apart, especially since they always prioritized Adam’s career and were there for him no matter what.
Adam’s family believes he became more distant after he began a serious relationship with Holly. They also suspect financial issues are contributing to the problem.
Adam’s family comes from a working-class background and they’re proud of it. This is quite different from the Ramsay family, and some family members feel Adam seems embarrassed by his roots.
