On Sunday evening, Warwick Davis touched BBC viewers deeply with his emotional eulogy for his departed spouse, during his heartfelt acceptance speech at the 2025 BAFTA awards.

The 55-year-old actor received a BAFTA Fellowship, an award given to individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary and exceptional achievements in cinema or television.

With a struggle to hold back his emotions, he graciously received the award and devoted it to his late wife, Samantha, whose passing occurred last year. This heartfelt gesture touched not only the glamorous attendees but also those viewing from their homes.

As he emotionally honored his late wife, who had sadly passed away about a year prior at the age of 53, he was dedicating the award to her.

What I’d particularly like to express gratitude towards, is my amazing wife Sammy, who passed away nearly a year ago.

She consistently backed my professional endeavors, urging me to seize each chance that came my way firmly.

Samantha, a performer by profession, spent 33 years as Warwick’s wife, with whom she raised three children. Tragically, she passed away on March 24.

In the audience, both Annabelle, aged 27, and Harrison, at 21, were spotted shedding tears while their father graciously acknowledged the support they provided during a challenging period in his life.

After that point, my life has become quite challenging, yet with the loving assistance from our remarkable kids, Annabelle and Harrison, I’ve managed to carry on working and participating in life.

Later, Warwick made a heartfelt acknowledgment to an enigmatic individual known as ‘the sponge’, expressing gratitude for assisting him in learning to love once more.

With a quiver in his voice, he expressed gratitude by saying, “‘Sponge,’ I must acknowledge your impact. You’re well aware of who you are. Thank you for teaching me that life holds significance once more, and for rekindling my ability to laugh and feel affection.

Warwick had spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia congenita from birth, an uncommon condition affecting bone growth which results in short stature.

Samantha also had dwarfism but hers was caused by was caused by a condition called achondroplasia.

At the 2025 BAFTA Awards, Mikey Madison and Adrien Brody took home the top honors for Best Actress and Best Actor respectively. Moreover, the films Conclave and The Brutalist both shone brightly with four awards each at this glamorous event.

At The Royal Festival Hall, Adrien, aged 51, and Mikey, 25, both proudly received their awards for their respective prominent roles in The Brutalist and Anora, an independent film.

On the grand occasion, the most significant event in British cinema made its comeback, graced by the presence of David Tennant as our host, along with various other presenters ready to announce the awards throughout the evening.

Against a formidable roster of ten contenders, the film “Conclave” emerged victorious in the Outstanding British Film category at the BAFTAs, earning an additional two awards for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Editing.

With an emotional acceptance speech, Zoe Saldana won the award for Best Supporting Actress, using colorful language to express her gratitude for the recognition of her role in the Mexican film “Emilia Perez.

Despite some divided opinions due to its release, the Mexican film boasting Selena Gomez among its stars has earned an impressive 11 nominations.

In a simple and fluent rewording: Jesse Eisenberg, aged 41, graciously accepted the Best Supporting Actor award that was given to his co-star Kieran Culkin, recognizing his exceptional performance in the movie “A Real Pain.

Winning the movie’s second place, he confessed: ‘I didn’t compose anything as I didn’t believe I’d triumph. I wish to give a piece of this recognition to my wife, who stayed away since she thought I wouldn’t win.’

Whilst accepting the honor for Best Non-English Film, Jacques Audiard, director Emilia Pérez and 72 years old, offered a touching homage to troubled actress Karla Sofía Gascón.

52-year-old Spanish actress Karla found herself excluded from the BAFTA guest list following a resurgence of her controversial social media posts, which touched upon topics such as racism, homophobia, and body shaming, igniting debates and causing public outcry.

In his speech, Jacques expressed gratitude towards the film’s cast first, and then concluded by expressing thanks to Karla Sofía, whom he acknowledged with a kiss.

While Zoe, another character from the film, gave an expletive-laced acceptance speech, she took the time to acknowledge a lengthy list of individuals she was grateful for, including Karla.

In my professional opinion as a lifestyle expert, I once found myself expressing disapproval over some tweets by an actress that I considered to be unforgivably hateful and inappropriate. These posts, regrettably, had a detrimental impact on my personal and professional connection with her.

Orlando Bloom and Vanesa Kirby graced the stage to present Jesse’s BAFTA award at the ceremony. 

In the awards ceremony, Demi Moore’s film, titled “The Substance,” won the category for Best Makeup and Hairstyling. Meanwhile, the upcoming movie “Dune: Part Two” garnered two awards: one for Best Sound and another for Best Visual Effects.

Wallace and Gromit were awarded not just one, but two BAFTAs on that particular night. Among those honors were the titles of Best Animation and Best Children’s and Family Film.

In a heartfelt gesture, first-time filmmaker and director Rich Peppiatt received the award for Outstanding Debut, and he paid homage to everyone tirelessly battling their respective struggles, expressing his gratitude to them.

In a fitting turn of events, Jon M. Chu’s production design for Wicked clinched the Best Production Design award at the BAFTAs, marking their first win of the night. As the night progressed, the hit film garnered another accolade, this time for Best Costume Design.
