As a long-time fan of the Warhammer 40,000 universe, I’m both excited and disappointed by the recent leak of the pre-release build of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine II. On one hand, getting an early glimpse into the game is always thrilling, allowing us to experience the new features and improvements in advance. On the other hand, I understand that these leaks take away from the developers’ hard work and can potentially ruin the intended release experience.
A version of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine II that was not yet publicly released has been shared illegally on the internet. Based on reports from Reddit users (as mentioned in VGC), this unauthorized build became available on torrent sites towards the end of June.
It seems that the current version of this game is complete and can be finished from beginning to end. Players can even collaborate in the process. Several gameplay videos have appeared on YouTube, but Saber Interactive, the creator, has been removing them.
It’s unfortunate that before an official release, developers don’t prefer users to discover their projects through leaked builds. Regrettably, such incidents have occurred frequently, including a recent data breach at Disney resulting in over 1TB of stolen information.
For fans of Warhammer, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine II is the follow-up to the 2011 game, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine. This action-packed shooter has gained a reputation among Warhammer enthusiasts as being slightly overlooked.
Saber recently cancelled the new game’s open beta, and released a community post about it:
As a seasoned video game developer with years of experience under my belt, I can tell you that bringing a game like Space Marine 2 to market is no small feat. After pouring countless hours into designing, coding, and refining every detail, we’re now in the final stretch. Our team is fully dedicated to making this title shine, focusing on optimization, polishing, and squashing those last-minute bugs before our scheduled launch on September 9.
The sequel to Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, titled Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine II, will be available starting from the 9th of September on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and personal computers.
