Vogue’s Shocking Fashion Fail: Australian Bride’s Wedding Dresses Slammed!
On Friday, Australian bride Eliza Murray attracted unwanted attention during her December wedding to partner Ed Powys in Sydney; an event that made headlines in Vogue Australia.
On the magazine’s site, prominently showcased was the founding partner of Bene Studio, who proudly displayed the wedding dresses she wore at her special event.
Critics heavily criticized the fashion magazine for showcasing Eliza, who was pictured in a poorly fitted Yves Saint Laurent gown and another revealing Mônot dress.
At her ceremony, Eliza put on a flowy, trimmed-with-lace vintage dress to avoid any wardrobe issues later, as she planned to change into another gown for the reception.
Instead of getting measured first, she acquired the Saint Laurent dress directly from the New York fashion archives, thanks to one of her stylish friends who helped secure it.
She shared with Vogue that she couldn’t find it online, but luckily, a fashionable acquaintance of hers, who happens to be a stylist, managed to obtain it in New York for her.
I purchased the dress directly from their collection, even though I didn’t have its measurements or a chance to try it on first. Luckily, it fit perfectly!
The frock, adorned with two broad lace sections, draped loosely over Eliza’s form, subtly concealing her ample cleavage that seemed eager to peek out whenever she shifted her position.
In a series of pictures and clips from her wedding on Instagram, the bride was noticeably smoothing the upper part of her dress while dancing, indicating a touch of self-awareness.
The dress of the evening proved to be racy as the hem barely reached the top of her thighs.
Large gaps on both sides of her dress seemed poised to unravel at any moment, potentially revealing her shape as she enjoyed a lively dance with her dear ones throughout the evening.
The modern ivory dress from Mônot was modified and tailored to fit by Carson Darling-Blair.
A large number of Instagram users flooded the comment section on the Vogue Australia account, criticizing unexpectedly showcased dresses in the magazine.
‘First dress could have been amazing it if fit well, second dress is shocking!’ one person wrote.

1st person: “It feels very much like something a grandmother would wear!”
2nd person: “There was no real reason for her to put on that dress.
Others commented, ‘Heavens above,’ ‘Unflattering gowns,’ and, ‘It appears this bride’s dress was not tailored to her figure very well.’
Some people criticized Vogue magazine, which is renowned globally as a leader in fashion, for covering Eliza’s wedding, suggesting they had strayed from their usual focus on style.
‘Not classy for Vogue,’ someone wrote.
‘The dress doesn’t fit. Hahah. Vogue went to Vague fashion,’ another added.
Daily Mail Australia has reached out to Eliza for comment.
On December 30, Eliza married her fiancé, Ed Powys – a skilled sailor and yachtsman – at her family residence located in the Northern Beaches of Sydney.
Regardless of the criticism aimed at her wedding dresses, Eliza embodied the essence of an earthy Australian bride perfectly, aligning seamlessly with her rustic theme.

Smoothly gathering her dark hair into an elegant bun, the Bene Studio’s director donned a heritage veil that had been treasured in her family for generations.
Instead of sticking to the traditional pairing of white wedding gowns with ivory heels, she chose unconventional shades from Saint Laurent – deep brown and navy.
She didn’t go for the usual ivory heels with her white wedding dress; instead, she picked deep brown and navy shoes by Saint Laurent.
She enhanced her natural charm by sporting a subtle, au naturel makeup style, allowing her genuine beauty to radiate brilliantly with a soft smoky eye and nude lip color.
Simultaneously, the newlywed Ed exuded charm in a minimalist black suit paired with a clean white dress shirt, adding a touch of contrast.
On their sun-drenched wedding day, the blissful pair beamed with joy throughout, as they exchanged vows in an open-air ceremony, followed by a cocktail reception held on a charming dockside.
Afterward, they embarked on a voyage with their cherished companions aboard the Murray family boat, sailing towards a dinner event and dance venue.
At the reception, Eliza informed Vogue that guests delighted in dancing amidst the dining tables and delivered heartfelt speeches. Furthermore, the event showcased entertaining games and an ice cream cart laden with delicious gelato.
‘It was such a love-filled, uplifting reunion of so many of our nearest and dearest,’ she said.
Eliza and Ed have had a close, multi-generational bond, as their families have enjoyed a friendship spanning several decades.
In 2010, they found each other again, with Eliza based in Portugal for work and Ed visiting the country on vacation.
By the close of 2011, the pair found themselves in a committed relationship after moving to live in London. In fact, it was just last September when Ed decided to pop the question and propose.
