Everyone predicted Vitality would reach the CS2 Major grand final – they were the strong favorites throughout the tournament. Meanwhile, FaZe Clan wasn’t expected to go far, especially after their performance in the first stage. This is a fantastic matchup, and either team winning would be a historic achievement!

Team Vitality has a chance to win their third Major championship here, and potentially their second consecutive one. They were a dominant force in the first half of 2025. While the competitive season leading up to the Budapest Major wasn’t flawless, Vitality consistently placed among the top four teams in major CS2 esports tournaments.

FaZe Clan previously won a major championship in 2022, and this final offers them a chance to earn their second. Although they reached the championship match in both majors this year, FaZe Clan hasn’t performed as strongly in 2024.

Going into the StarLadder Budapest Major 2025, everyone counted FaZe Clan out – they were the underdogs, for sure. But man, did they prove everyone wrong! Team Vitality dominated in the quarterfinal against The MongolZ, and they broke the resistance of Team Spirit in the semifinal: after three overtimes on Map 1.

FaZe Clan in CS esports

FaZe Clan’s current lineup looks quite different from the team that won the Antwerp Major, and the runners-up from Copenhagen and Shanghai. Russel “Twistzz” Van Dulken and Jakub “jcobbb” Pietruszewski joined the organization in late 2025. The departure of Håvard “rain” Nygaard after EPL Season 22 sparked a lot of debate among fans, and newcomer jcobbb became a central topic of those discussions.

FaZe Clan competed in the entire Budapest Major, starting from the very first stage. Recent games showed that jcobbb has earned his place on the team, and FaZe as a whole looked incredibly powerful. If they win, FaZe will become only the second organization in history to win Major championships in both CS:GO and CS2.

In their recent match, Team Vitality beat FaZe Clan 2-1 in the ESL Pro League Season 22 quarterfinals. FaZe Clan won the first map, Mirage, in a close 22-20 game. Vitality then took the next two maps – Inferno and Dust II – with scores of 13-9 and 13-8, respectively.

Based on the recent performances in Budapest, Team Vitality and FaZe Clan probably won’t make big changes to their player lineups before the 2026 CS2 esports season. However, both the players and the organizations could still have different ideas. Competitive play will resume at the end of January, with IEM Cologne 2026 being the next major Counter-Strike 2 tournament.
