Virgin River’s future confirmed beyond season 6 as it makes Netflix history

As a seasoned gamer of Netflix series, I can confidently say that the renewal of “Virgin River” for its seventh season is nothing short of a game-changer. With its captivating storylines and compelling characters, this drama has reigned supreme in the streaming world, outlasting even the formidable House of Cards and The Crown.

Virgin River has set an impressive Netflix record with its season 7 renewal.

As reported by Deadline, the streaming platform formally acquired the TV series on October 23rd, which is approximately two months prior to its anticipated debut in December for the upcoming sixth season.

The host has commissioned an additional 10 episodes of the show “Virgin River,” making it the longest-running scripted series that’s being produced for Netflix at present, as well as the longest-running English language drama series they have ever produced.

The TV series “Virgin River” has now secured a minimum of seven seasons, surpassing the number of seasons in Netflix dramas like “House of Cards” and “The Crown,” each with six seasons, and is only one season shy of the eight seasons that “Elite,” the Spanish-language teen drama, has.

Netflix persuaded their actors to share a teaser about “yet another intriguing Virgin River town mystery” in a video posted on Instagram, hinting that Season 7 is coming soon.

Previously hinted by the streamer, Jack Sheridan’s (Martin Henderson) and Mel Monroe’s (Alexandra Breckenridge) long-awaited wedding was expected to be a significant event in season six. Now, fans can look forward to witnessing the newlyweds’ married life in season 7.

According to the latest updates, Netflix is working on a spin-off series for “Virgin River,” focusing on Sarah, Mel’s mother, and Everett Reid (played by John Allen Nelson). This new show promises to unveil the untold story of their past relationship, which holds significant secrets that shaped the events in the original series.

Virgin River's future confirmed beyond season 6 as it makes Netflix history

Fans have been anxiously anticipating the arrival of season six, but its debut has faced production setbacks due to writer’s and actors’ union strikes last year. Starring actress Alexandra Breckenridge humorously admitted that she accidentally prolonged filming for at least one day when she found herself trapped in a chicken coop.

Currently, you can stream seasons 1 through 5 of Virgin River on Netflix. The sixth season will premiere on December 19, 2024. Meanwhile, a seventh season for Virgin River is being worked on and developed.
