The seventh season of Virgin River premiered on Netflix Thursday, bringing the show’s blend of small-town charm and plenty of drama back to screens. The series is set in a picturesque North Carolina town.
That was a couple of days ago, and now we’re focused on the future. Here’s what we currently know about season 8 of Virgin River.

Is Virgin River getting a season 8?
Yes! The eighth season has been officially greenlit.
So, Netflix officially greenlit another season way back in July 2025, which was cool. They’d already shot season 7 by then, but knowing there were more seasons coming definitely influenced how they put it all together. It meant they could build towards something bigger!
Virgin River season 8 release date
What to Read Next
There’s no confirmed release date or timeframe for the next season, and the show doesn’t have a predictable schedule. Previous seasons have premiered in various months – November, December, March, and July – and they even tried releasing Season 5 in two parts.
Filming for the new season is scheduled to take place between April and August this year. Last year, Season 7 finished filming in June and was released in March. If the new season follows a similar schedule, we might see it released around May 2027.
Who is and isn’t returning for Virgin River season 8?
While the complete cast for the next season is still to be revealed, Alexandra Breckenridge and Martin Henderson are likely to return. Although showrunner Patrick Sean Smith told Deadline there aren’t any planned major changes to the cast, some actors will be leaving the show.
Actors Marco Grazzini and Lauren Hammersley, who played Mike and Charmaine, will not be back for the next season. However, showrunner Smith has indicated that a return for their characters isn’t completely ruled out in the future.

What will happen in Virgin River season 8?
After all the excitement of season 7 (you can find a full recap here), Smith has shared some details about what’s coming up in the next season.
In a recent article for Deadline, he shared that the new 10-episode season will start with a four-month leap forward in time. Although season 9 hasn’t been officially confirmed, he doesn’t see the current season as the show’s last.
This season will show whether Mel and Jack’s baby’s surgery is successful, and how their past continues to affect them as they try to build a future. We’ll also see Clay continuing his search for his sister, and Preacher taking center stage. While a wedding isn’t in the cards, expect a surprising romance to blossom between Muriel and Everett.
Virgin River seasons 1-7 can be streamed on Netflix now.
The latest issue of Living Legends, a vibrant, full-color 100-page tribute to Harry Styles, is now available! You can purchase it at newsstands or online.
