Season 2 of Apple TV’s hit crime show won’t be what everyone’s expecting.
Vince Vaughn has stated that season 2 of Bad Monkey is a temporary season, even though they originally intended to adapt another book. Season 2 continues the story from season 1, which was based on Carl Hiaasen’s novel Bad Monkey. Hiaasen also wrote a sequel to that novel called Razor Girl.
In a recent interview with Deadline about his new film Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice, Vaughn shared that the second season of Bad Monkey won’t follow the Razor Girl storyline. He explained the upcoming season on Apple TV will be a short, transitional season, meaning it will feature an entirely original story. Filming for these episodes has already begun in Florida.
The first season of Bad Monkey wrapped up all storylines, just like the original book, which doesn’t set up the events of Razor Girl. But the TV series will differ from the books – the creators have announced an original story will connect the two adaptations, providing a link between them.
The actor shared that if the second season does well, they plan to move forward with a third season. He also mentioned that David Dobkin, the director of Wedding Crashers, directed several episodes, highlighting the experienced team working on the show.
With the Razor Girl storyline finished, we don’t yet know what the second season will be about. This creates exciting possibilities, like bringing back characters from Bad Monkey who weren’t expected to return in the next book adaptation. It seems the series is heading towards a larger, more expansive story.
Currently, it’s unknown how much of the new show has actually been filmed or when it will be released. The show’s creator, Bill Lawrence, is also busy with other projects, including the HBO series Rooster and the fourth season of Ted Lasso, which will be available on Apple TV later this year. Because of his commitments, it might be a while before Vaughn returns to this show.
His latest news about Bad Monkey season 2 suggests the next story will be quite different and stand out. It’s not yet clear exactly how the new season will connect to the story of Razor Girl, but it will probably be another interesting and funny mystery for Yancy to investigate.
