Vin Diesel is taking on a lot for the upcoming movie based on the classic Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots game. He’s not just going to star in it, but he’s also writing the screenplay and producing the film.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is starring in a movie based on the classic toy Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots, continuing his work with Universal Pictures. The film is a collaboration between Mattel Films and Johnson’s production company, One Race Films. It follows the success of the 2023 Barbie movie, also produced by Mattel Films and Warner Bros.

Robbie Brenner, head of Mattel Studios and a producer on the movie, praised Vin as a remarkably talented storyteller who excels at action, emotional depth, and creating immersive worlds. She believes his vision for the Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots film is imaginative, relatable, and visually stunning – precisely the type of narrative Mattel Studios aims to produce.

Vin Diesel shared his enthusiasm for bringing a beloved toy from his childhood—Hot Wheels—to a new generation. He explained that the story will explore themes of competition, strength, and ultimately, the importance of compassion.

Mattel is planning more live-action movies based on its popular toys. These include a Masters of the Universe film coming to Amazon MGM Studios on June 5, 2026, and a Matchbox movie with Apple Original Films starring John Cena, known for his role in Peacemaker.

In March, Vin Diesel shared news about his upcoming work on Instagram. He announced that Mattel, a company he enjoys, is nearing the release of a project based on the classic Rock ‘em Sock ‘em game!

In February, a fan met two iconic video game characters: Red Rocker and Blue Bomber. He shared a photo of the encounter with the caption, “Childhood dreams coming true…”
