Vin Diesel Confirms He Is Still Working on a ‘Kojak’ Reboot

As a huge movie fan, I’m keeping an eye on what Vin Diesel has coming up! It sounds like he’s got a bunch of action sequels planned – another Riddick, a new Fast & Furious, and even a second Last Witch Hunter. But what really has me intrigued is his passion project: he’s still determined to bring back a classic detective series from the 70s, and that’s a totally different vibe for him – I can’t wait to see how that turns out!

Vin Diesel announced upcoming projects on Instagram by sharing a photo of himself as Dominic Toretto from Fast and Furious. He hinted at several sequels in the works, also including images from his films Riddick and The Last Witch Hunter. His post included the following caption…

We’re currently working on bringing several films to theaters, including Fast X2, Kaulder, Riddick, Xander, and a new movie about a famous New York detective.

I’ve been thinking about all the incredible people I’ve had the chance to collaborate with. As always, I value your input on who I cast in my projects. Who are some actors you’d like to see me work with next?

The detective in question is undoubtedly Kojak, famous for sucking on lollipops and bending the rules, a role originally played by Telly Savalas. Vin Diesel has been planning a modern update to the 1970s crime series for over ten years, and has even shared photos of himself resembling the iconic, hard-boiled detective. Diesel will now star in and produce the reboot, with Phillip Gawthorne (known for The Last Druid) writing the screenplay. Despite the project taking a long time to develop, Diesel remains enthusiastic about the chance to offer his own take on New York and its history.

Vin Diesel Is Set to Revisit Several Major Action Franchises

So, alongside talk of bringing back Kojak, Vin Diesel is really doubling down on the franchises fans love. I’m especially excited about the new Riddick movie, Riddick: Furya! David Twohy is back directing, along with the Wheat brothers writing, and they’re already filming. Apparently, this one’s going to delve into Riddick’s backstory and we’re going to meet other Furyans – and from what I hear, they’re going to be a lot like him, maybe even more so! It sounds like it’s going to be a really interesting look at where he came from.

Okay, so things are a little shaky with Fast and Furious 11 right now, which was supposed to be the big ending. But Vin Diesel isn’t slowing down! He’s working on bringing back Xander Cage – you know, the xXx guy, basically America’s answer to James Bond – for another movie, xXx 4. And get this – they’re actually making a sequel to The Last Witch Hunter! I know the first one didn’t do great in theaters and people were pretty divided on it, but apparently it’s been finding a new audience on streaming, and Lionsgate is giving Kaulder another shot. Adam Fogelsen at Lionsgate even put out a statement about it, which is exciting!

I’ve been really surprised and pleased to see how much staying power ‘The Last Witch Hunter’ has had. Over the last ten years, it’s found a dedicated fanbase who keep revisiting it on all sorts of platforms, which tells me people really want to see more of that world. And honestly, working with Vin Diesel is always a blast – he’s a powerhouse in this business. So, I’m incredibly excited to be teaming up with him again as he revisits this iconic role, and even more excited about what we can achieve with the filmmaking tools we have now. We’re aiming for a sequel that’s bigger and bolder than the first, and we can actually make it happen thanks to those advancements.
