Vikings Star Wants To Replace Gal Gadot As James Gunn’s Wonder Woman In The DCU

DC Studios is developing a new Wonder Woman movie as part of the rebooted DC Universe overseen by James Gunn. While the first phase of the DCU, called “Gods and Monsters,” is in progress, Wonder Woman will be a central character, and many actors have expressed interest in portraying the iconic Amazonian princess.

Frida Gustavsson, known for her role in Vikings: Valhalla, has expressed interest in playing Wonder Woman in the DC Universe. A fan account, @Diana_Prince41, recently asked Gustavsson to like a comment if she was interested, and she did just that, signaling her potential interest in the role.

DC Studios hasn’t officially announced who will play Wonder Woman, but many fans are excited about Frida Gustavsson. The 32-year-old actress starred as Freydís Eiríksdóttir in the Netflix series Vikings: Valhalla for three seasons, and a ‘like’ she gave to a fan post about the possibility quickly generated a lot of buzz.

Gal Gadot most recently portrayed Wonder Woman (Diana) in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). She first appeared as the character in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and then starred in her own Wonder Woman movie in 2017. Besides Wonder Woman 1984, Gadot also made brief appearances in a few of the last DCEU films before the series concluded in 2023.

Although a director hasn’t been chosen yet, the new Wonder Woman movie for the DC Universe now has a writer. Ana Nogueira, who previously worked on Supergirl and is also writing the script for a live-action Teen Titans movie, will be writing the screenplay for the Wonder Woman reboot.

DC Studios waits to hire a director until the script is complete, because they need a clear creative plan for each project first. However, after the anticipated success of the Superman film in 2025, a Wonder Woman movie is now a major focus for the DC Universe.

DC Studios’ Wonder Woman has yet to get a release date.
