Dougray Scott, known for his role in *Vigil*, will appear in *Fairytale Detective*, a new crime drama set in historical Copenhagen.
According to *Variety*, the actor will play the famous Danish author Hans Christian Andersen in a new story set in 1850s Copenhagen. The plot involves Andersen solving crimes with characters from his own fairy tales.
Besides solving crimes throughout Copenhagen – something he considers a unique pastime – Hans is also trying to propose to Jenny Lind, the woman he loves.

Brendan Foley, who previously worked with Scott on the historical crime drama *Sherlock & Daughter*, is the creator of *Fairytale Detective*. While the total number of episodes hasn’t been announced, each episode is expected to be approximately one hour long.
Scott expressed his excitement about working with Brendan Foley on *Fairytale Detective*. He praised Foley for bringing a fresh, funny, and surprisingly emotional perspective to the stories of Hans Christian Andersen.

I’ve always seen him as a really fascinating, and kind of heartbreaking, character. He seems to struggle with connecting to people in real life, and I’ve even wondered if he might be on the autism spectrum. It’s like he expresses all his feelings through the people he creates in his stories – he really *becomes* them. And solving crimes? It’s not just about justice for him, it feels like it gives him the same sense of purpose as writing, and a way to finally understand the world and the people in it.
As a fan, I’m really excited about the chance to dive deep into the character and his story over the course of the series. The actor, who I also recognize from *Mission: Impossible 2* and *Desperate Housewives*, hopes it will be a truly revealing experience for viewers, and honestly, so do I!

Scott will play a famous author in this new crime drama. But in the second season of the Scottish comedy *The Chief*, he’ll be taking on a very different role: himself!
He expressed his excitement about meeting The Chief, describing him as a legendary figure known for his strong sense of justice and surprisingly humorous personality. He noted The Chief’s humor is unintentional, making it even more charming.
