has returned for a third season of the popular crime drama, and even though critics haven’t been entirely kind, it’s quickly become the most-watched show on Paramount+. It’s surpassed shows like and in popularity. Taylor Sheridan consistently delivers hits, and is proving popular enough to stay at the top for some time, until his upcoming shows , , and the next installment of are released.
Season 3 of Tulsa King picks up Dwight Manfredi’s story with Sylvester Stallone, and also sets the stage for its spin-off, NOLA King, which stars Samuel L. Jackson and is currently being filmed. After two episodes, it’s clear that, as with all shows from Taylor Sheridan, viewers are eager to tune in. The release of the second episode of Tulsa King Season 3 demonstrates that, even with mixed reviews, the series continues to attract a dedicated audience who are invested in the storyline.
I’ve noticed a lot of people say Taylor Sheridan tends to paint with pretty broad strokes, and that’s *definitely* been showing with the reaction to Tulsa King. It’s the first TV show led by Sylvester Stallone, so of course it has a ton of star power – what Sheridan project *doesn’t*? – but that hasn’t stopped people from pointing out its flaws. Back in 2022, USA Today really didn’t hold back, calling the debut of Tulsa King “a compounding engine of cringe,” and honestly, even after two seasons, people are *still* saying the storylines are “cartoonish and ridiculous.”
Interestingly, much of the negative feedback this time is coming from regular viewers, not professional critics. While Season 2 of Tulsa King surprisingly achieved a perfect 100% score on the Tomatometer, and Season 3 is currently holding steady at 86%, the audience response to Season 3 is much lower. It’s down to 60% from the 87% enjoyed by Season 1, which is nearing “rotten” territory. One reviewer explained, “When a show starts to run out of fresh ideas, you end up with increasingly ridiculous episodes. It’s become a joke and isn’t worth watching anymore.” Another viewer bluntly stated, “It’s the usual low-quality work from Stallone. Someone should re-record his lines to make his dialogue understandable. I’m surprised the mafia hasn’t silenced him.”
‘Tulsa King’ Is a Hit, No Matter What Anyone Thinks of It

Paramount+
Tulsa King centers around Dwight “The General” Manfredi, played by Stallone, a mafia boss who is sent to Tulsa, Oklahoma, after spending 25 years in jail. There, he attempts to create a new criminal organization using businesses like vape shops and bars. Despite receiving some criticism for its exaggerated plots and Stallone’s performance style, Tulsa King consistently attracts a large viewership each week.
Taylor Sheridan is a proven success when it comes to popular streaming shows, and he’s created many hits. You don’t have to look far on the Paramount+ top 10 to find one of his TV series, even when new episodes aren’t being released. Now, with NOLA King set to build on the world of Tulsa King, and a fourth season of the original series also planned, it’s clear the show still has strong momentum and support for continued success.
Besides these upcoming shows, Sheridan also has several other projects on the way, including Season 3 of Lioness, Season 2 of Landman, and Season 4 of Mayor of Kingstown. Additionally, there are new shows expanding the Yellowstone universe, such as The Madison and a currently unnamed show about the Dutton Ranch.
