‘Victorian Psycho’ Horror Gets ‘Harry Potter’ & ‘Longlegs’ Stars in Shocking Cast Update

How about rephrasing this in a more natural and easy-to-understand way: Imagine if “American Psycho,” the story of a Wall Street man with a violent secret, were set in the Victorian era instead. Instead, we have a governess navigating high society while harboring a dark, murderous intent. This unique concept has led to the publication of Virginia Feito’s bestselling novel, “Victorian Psycho,” earlier this year and now a film adaptation is underway as well. As a new take on the ’90s slasher film featuring Christian Bale, it’s clear that “American Psycho” remains a timeless classic. However, its latest incarnation offers an intriguing blend of genres.

The idea behind “Victorian Psycho” is nearly as thrilling as its recent character additions, which feature Maika Monroe (known for her roles in “It Follows” and “Longlegs”) and Jason Isaacs (renowned from “The White Lotus” and “Harry Potter”). Monroe steps into the role previously held by Margaret Qualley as the psychotic Winifred Notty, while Isaacs takes on the part of Mr. Pounds, the manor’s owner who hires the unconventional governess. With a screenplay by Feito, the plot revolves around Notty, who arrives at a secluded gothic mansion known as the Ensor House, where she performs various duties such as teaching the children residing there. As time passes, staff members mysteriously vanish, causing the estate’s owners to question if their new governess has truly adapted to the manners and etiquette expected of her.

Director Zachary Wigon has spoken about the inclusion of Monroe and Jason in the cast, a group that also features Thomasin McKenzie, known for her role in “Jojo Rabbit”.

Maika’s captivating on-screen persona has left a deep impression on me each time I’ve seen her tackle intricate roles. I’m genuinely excited to see her apply her distinctive method of psychological character study to the enigmatic and peculiar character, Winifred Notty.

Jason captures the intricacies of human emotions and actions with remarkable accuracy. I’m delighted that he’s joining ‘Victorian Psycho‘, as it promises to be captivating to see him breathe life into the mysterious and volatile character, Mr. John Pounds of Ensor House.

Righting the Wrongs of ‘American Psycho 2’

The lesser-known follow-up to “American Psycho,” featuring Mila Kunis as a sinister criminology student portraying a female take on the tormented character Patrick Bateman, fell short in almost every aspect, particularly in its attempt at the heavy satire that characterized the original movie. The film wasn’t originally intended to be a sequel to the widely acclaimed psychological thriller, but one major flaw of the follow-up could have been its contemporary setting. Conversely, “Victorian Psycho” might live up to all that the ill-fated sequel aspired to achieve.

Titled “Victorian Psycho“, this horror movie is expected to depict a chilling journey into madness, mirroring Mary Harron’s seminal work in style. It’s undeniable that Bret Easton Ellis, the author of “American Psycho“, has had an influence on Feito’s interpretation of the original concept. However, the exact balance of dark humor and graphic violence remains a mystery to fans. As Feito penned the movie script himself, reading the book might offer some insight into the level of decadence one can expect.
