Victoria Beckham became a major fashion icon in the 1990s, gaining fame as a member of the hugely popular Spice Girls.
Fashion from the 1990s is back in a big way, with trends like double denim, loose-fitting clothes, and cargo pants dominating stores. Now, the designers who first created these styles are revisiting and updating them for a new generation.
One of the latest fashionistas to capitalise on this nostalgia is Posh Spice herself.
As Victoria Beckham became famous, she became known for her 90s minimalist style. She created a sophisticated look – often called ‘Posh’ – featuring simple black dresses, tailored Gucci outfits, and a mostly monochrome color scheme.
She’s teamed up with GAP to release a new collection inspired by 90s fashion, bringing together luxury style and the brand’s classic appeal.
This collection is a nostalgic nod to her signature looks, with pieces like denim jackets, capri pants, and classic, simple tees.
This collaboration marks a strategic move for the fashion world, as Victoria Beckham is partnering with a popular, well-known retail brand, signaling her support for its return to prominence.
Victoria says it feels surreal to think that today’s young shoppers might experience the same joy she felt when she shopped at Gap as a teenager and young adult.
She recalled a childhood trip to Gap with her mother and sister, describing how thrilled she was to be there.
‘Growing up, it was only ever the high street. I wasn’t in a position to wear designer clothes.’
This launch will not only give Victoria more room to showcase her unique, vintage-inspired designs, but it will also help her business become more financially secure, as past independent projects haven’t been consistently profitable.
Her fashion and beauty business lost over £66 million between its launch in 2008 and the end of 2022.
As a long-time supporter, I was absolutely thrilled to see her finally turn things around at the end of 2023! After 15 years of struggle, she actually made a profit – it was a truly amazing turnaround and gave me so much hope.
She achieved this success with an £890 handbag, £30 eyeliner, and a smart social media plan. This includes posting makeup tutorials on TikTok, which have gained millions of views.
She was delighted by the improvement in her finances. In 2022, her accounts showed a profit of £200,000, thanks to strong sales of her accessories after she introduced a leather goods collection last year.
Okay, so after she totally killed it financially for a while, her newest collection is EVERYTHING. It’s all about the basics, you know? Like, the core pieces every modern woman needs in her closet. And it’s amazing because it’s her incredible, chic tailoring mixed with Gap’s classic American style – it’s a DREAM come true, honestly!
These clothes are made to feel effortlessly chic and stylish. They take classic, everyday pieces and improve them with a great fit and careful design, helping you feel confident and fashionable.
As a longtime fan, I’ve always seen Gap as a true American classic. They just get how to create clothes that never really go out of style – the perfect building blocks for a wardrobe that lasts.
The result is a collaboration that feels both personal and incredibly precise.
This 38-item collection combines the best of both brands, featuring classic, well-made denim, khakis, t-shirts, and comfortable fleece pieces.
The style transitioned from practical, khaki-colored skirts and jackets to a bolder look featuring thick fleece pieces with prominent logos.
Jeans are central to this collection, with the ‘Arc Jean’ as a key piece. The collection also features timeless straight-leg and capri styles, all designed to be worn together in coordinating colors.
The collection is completed with classic white button-down shirts and well-made jackets like trench coats and bombers – perfect for layering as the seasons change.
The collection features luxurious materials and elegant designs, all subtly branded with red ‘VB’ stitching.
The Gap x Victoria Beckham collection launches on Friday, in store and at gap.com
