As I delve into the world of fashion and its 90s revolution depicted in the Disney+ documentary “In Vogue: The 90s”, I am deeply moved by the raw, unfiltered accounts from industry titans like Victoria Beckham, Kate Moss, Stella McCartney, and many others. Their stories are a testament to resilience, creativity, and the power of friendship, despite the harsh realities of an industry that often demanded more than it could give.

Victoria Beckham shared that it was on their initial date that her husband, David, splurged on a fresh Prada suit as an attempt to win her over with his style.

In a recent episode of the new documentary “In Vogue: The 90s,” now available for streaming on Disney+, the 50-year-old fashion designer shared insights into the early stages of their romantic journey.

Speaking passionately about high-end fashion, she reminisced: “I often leaned on Versace, Prada, and Gucci as my preferred designers. It seems they were striking a chord back then. Perhaps it was their keen insight into the influence of celebrities.

In 1997, when I first encountered David, he had already learned about my affinity for high-end fashion – a fact that resonated with the Italians.

“Following a few football games where I might be seen as chasing him, possibly even labeled as stalking, we eventually agreed to have a date.

He mentioned that he was unsure about what to wear since she prefers designer clothing. As a result, he ended up purchasing an entire Prada outfit for our first date, with the intention of making a good impression on me.

Laughing, she added: ‘Which it did, because it was Prada.’

In the eagerly awaited new documentary, Victoria admitted that she emulated Linda Evangelista following her ‘extreme fascination’, which turned into an obsession with the supermodel.

She shared that her fascination with the ’90s celebrity led her to visit the very same hair salon Linda frequented, and she even adopted Linda’s hairstyle as a tribute.

She said: ‘[Linda] was the reason why I cut my hair, the reason why I dyed my hair lots of different colours. I was in New York, and I went to Garren, who was Linda’s hairdresser.

‘When he cut all my hair off. I was channeling my inner Linda.’

In the six-part documentary, Kate Moss spoke candidly about the instances where concerned mothers subjected her to abuse.

In the 90s, when she was widely recognized as a symbol of the popular trend, the supermodel, now 50 years old, shared that strangers often accused her of advocating eating disorders when they encountered her on the street.

She told the Disney+ documentary: ‘Parents would come up to me and say, “My daughter’s anorexic”. It was awful.

I believe my relatively slim figure stood out, as people were accustomed to seeing larger builds. If I had a more voluptuous physique, perhaps it wouldn’t have caused as much of a stir. However, my body type differed significantly from the models who came before me.

The documentary features conversations with ex-editors from Vogue like Edward Enninful, along with famous faces such as supermodel Naomi Campbell, actress Gwyneth Paltrow, and Sarah Jessica Parker from Sex and the City.

As a lifestyle connoisseur, I’d like to highlight that this space showcases the creative genius of none other than Stella McCartney. In an intriguing twist, Stella herself shared insights into her unique advantage – being the daughter of the legendary Paul McCartney from The Beatles.

At Central St Martin’s fashion school in London, during her graduation show, Stella reminisced about an unusual scenario: While other students were selecting their models and enlisting friends, she found herself surrounded by supermodels. Although she had friends, they were not like the ones these other students had.

Initially, I thought, ‘If I do that, everyone will dislike me…’, but life is too precious, and they were true friends of mine.

Those girls were undeniably beautiful, gracing stages in every city worldwide. They even performed a small fashion show at a local college, especially for me. It was truly spectacular.

Disney+’s Vogue documentary presents unique, previously unseen archival material from influential figures within the fashion world, shedding light on the untold tales behind iconic pop culture events and trends of the last decade.

Additional participants will encompass fashion designers such as Tom Ford, Marc Jacobs, and Jean Paul Gaultier, actress Claire Danes, models Amber Valletta and Tyson Beckford, filmmaker Baz Luhrmann, and political figure Hillary Clinton.

The new series was announced by The Walt Disney Company EMEA at the Edinburgh TV Festival last year.
