Victoria Beckham reveals her children didn’t know how good a footballer dad David was until they saw his documentary – as she sizzles in a sheer lace dress in sexy new shoot
As a dedicated follower and admirer of the Beckham family, I can’t help but marvel at their extraordinary journey through life. Growing up, I vividly remember David Beckham gracing football fields across the globe with his unparalleled skills and grace. Yet, it was only after watching his Netflix documentary that his children truly grasped the greatness of their father. It brings a smile to my face, imagining young Cruz’s astonishment at realizing just how good ‘Dad’ was at football.
He’s widely recognized as one of the greatest British soccer players ever, having been honored with a place in the Hall of Fame due to his outstanding career achievements.
It wasn’t until they saw his Netflix documentary that David Beckham’s children realized just how talented a soccer player he was.
Featured prominently on the latest issue of Harper’s Bazaar, Victoria Beckham (age 50) shares insights about her family life and spouse in an exclusive interview.
The pair married in 1999 and share children Brooklyn, 25, Romeo, 22, Cruz, 19, and Harper, 13.
Previously, a Netflix documentary was unveiled that delved into the extraordinary journey of Mr. Beckham becoming a professional football player.
‘It was funny, actually,’ Victoria said about the documentary.
‘Cruz was like, ‘I didn’t realize that Dad was so good at football.’
You seem to have forgotten that it was such a long time past. They used to attend every game, but truth be told, they were just tiny kids back then, far too young to grasp the intricacies of the sport.
David, aged 49, finished second in the Ballon d’Or in 1999, earned the title of two-time runner-up for the FIFA World Player of the Year award, and was recognized by Pelé as one of the top 100 living football players worldwide in 2004, according to the FIFA 100 list.
In 2008, he was honored by being inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame, and he received a similar recognition in 2021 when he became a member of the Premier League Hall of Fame.
1998 saw him face public humiliation when he was dismissed during the game against Argentina. The incident occurred when he kicked Diego Simeone. Regrettably, England lost the match in a penalty shoot-out after that.
Victoria mentioned that when the event occurred, David was the same age as Romeo currently is.
‘That’s a lot for a 22-year-old.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I find myself often embracing situations that demand immediate action, where the choice is to either thrive or tread water. In such moments, I simply dive in without hesitation, relying heavily on the camaraderie that surrounds me. Looking back, those shared experiences have become the fabric of our collective history.
‘But the thought of my Romeo having to go through it, I don’t know how he would handle that. I don’t know how anyone would handle that. But we didn’t have a choice.’
Last year Victoria turned 50 and said she now doesn’t care for being in the public eye as much.
She told the magazine: ‘You have to go through those times to make you, ultimately, who you are.
We’ve managed to maintain a level of privacy that suits us at the moment, and that’s exactly what we prefer in our current situation.
Once upon a time, the thrill of strolling down Bond Street with the paparazzi hot on my heels was an exhilarating experience – one I used to embrace, knowing full well that my every move would be captured for public consumption. However, as I’ve grown and evolved, I find myself yearning for a more private, less scrutinized existence. I no longer crave the constant attention and the pressure of always being ‘on.’ Instead, I now cherish the simple pleasures of anonymity and the freedom to express my individuality without the glare of the spotlight.
It seems like I’ve been engaged in this for far too long. While it may have been a part of my life during my formative years, the current state of affairs is simply overwhelming – there are too many responsibilities, too much activity, and too many children to look after.
‘I woke up at 50, and I gave a s**t less.’
The December/January issue of Harper’s Bazaar UK is on sale from 6 November.
