Victoria Beckham was honored for her contributions to the fashion industry at a ceremony in Paris on Monday. She was accompanied by her family and closest friends.
Right after being awarded a prestigious arts honor by the French government, Victoria Beckham, formerly of the Spice Girls, shared photos on Instagram celebrating this major achievement in her career.
A photo showed her with her husband, David, 50, looking lovingly at him. She then went on X (formerly Twitter) to thank him for being her first supporter.
Victoria Beckham’s fashion brand struggled when it first launched, losing a significant amount of money before her husband, David Beckham, helped turn things around.
Her sons Romeo and Cruz, along with their girlfriends and daughter Harper, joined her at the event, which happened a year after she publicly discussed feeling ’embarrassed’ by setbacks in her documentary. Notably absent was her son Brooklyn.
Victoria expressed her gratitude to French Culture Minister Rachida Dati on X, then shared a message for her husband.
She expressed her delight and honor at receiving the Chevalier rank in the Order of Arts and Letters from the French Ministry of Culture. She has long been a fan of French style and appreciates how France views fashion as a true art form.
Being acknowledged and welcomed here is a truly special honor—a recognition of many years of hard work and commitment. I am deeply grateful to the French Minister of Culture, Rachida Dati, for this incredible honor.
I’m incredibly thankful for the support of my business partners, my family, and especially my husband, David, who was also my first investor. I couldn’t have done it without you all, and you mean the world to me.
Victoria Beckham’s fashion brand got off to a rocky start in 2008. Overspending led to financial losses, and she needed financial support from her husband, David, to keep the business afloat.
David couldn’t keep investing in her business for long, as it was losing a significant amount of money – £66 million, to be exact. These substantial losses became well-known, and the brand continued to struggle.
He admitted to being terrified after investing a significant amount of money in his wife’s business, especially when he realized it was losing money quickly. He explained he panicked because he didn’t believe they would recover any of the investment.
We’d always promised to have each other’s backs, but I was concerned it wouldn’t last. It just didn’t seem realistic long-term.
Victoria explained that the business was losing a lot of money and deeply in debt. She felt overwhelmed and desperate to turn things around, as she really cared about the company and its future. The pressure was immense, and she felt like she was falling apart.
‘I felt embarrassed… I was in a hole, it felt like I was in quicksand.’
I was so inspired watching Victoria’s Netflix documentary! She really opened up about how tough things got with her fashion label, especially when David stopped financially supporting it. But what amazed me was how she completely turned things around and saved the business herself. It was incredible to see her resilience and determination!
She told David Belhassen she was in a very difficult situation, admitting she needed not only financial help but also other forms of support from him.
According to Belhassen, Victoria wasn’t simply seeking an investor. She needed a partner with business expertise who understood her vision and could help her achieve it.
He hesitated to get involved, remembering that when he examined the company and spoke with its people, he quickly understood the severity of the problem. He described it as a complete disaster, and admitted he’d never encountered a challenge so difficult to resolve.
Because of this, Belhassen told Victoria he couldn’t assist her, which deeply upset the designer.
Victoria’s luck turned around thanks to a spontaneous date night for Belhassan and his wife. He explained that he saw a woman who looked amazing and simply asked her what she was wearing.
I was so fascinated to discover she was a huge fan of Victoria Beckham! It seemed like she was constantly getting pieces from the brand – she really loved it, and honestly, who can blame her? It’s amazing stuff!
I remember the moment everything clicked – it was like a spark ignited into a full-blown fire. I immediately called a meeting with the team and we all agreed: we had to take the risk, and we’d face the consequences together. We signed the deal, and Victoria was incredibly moved, promising me she wouldn’t let me down. It was a really powerful moment.
