Victoria Beckham documentary: The 10 most explosive moments from the designer’s Netflix show

Victoria Beckham‘s new Netflix series offers a fresh look at her life as a designer and her career journey.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been following Victoria Beckham’s journey, and her new series is a fascinating look behind the scenes. It’s like getting an all-access pass to the whirlwind leading up to her Paris Fashion Week show last September – the same team behind the acclaimed documentaries about David Beckham and Michelle Obama really captured the energy!

After David Beckham’s popular 2023 documentary attracted a record-breaking 3.8 million viewers in its first week, Netflix decided to create this new series.

The new show has lived up to expectations, as Victoria shared several surprising details in the three-episode series.

The show features dramatic conflicts with other celebrities, and also heartwarming scenes with her family.

Now, Daily Mail reveals the 10 most surprising moments in Victoria’s docuseries.

Victoria’s out of control spending

The show largely focuses on how Victoria’s Secret almost failed and the steps they took to recover.

Victoria Beckham’s fashion brand lost over £66 million since it started in 2008, but finally became profitable in 2023 – after 15 years of losses.

The company’s improvement was largely attributed to a combination of factors: an $1,100 handbag, a $38 eyeliner, and a well-planned social media campaign featuring makeup tutorial videos on TikTok.

David Belhassen, a businessman who invested in her struggling company, also mentioned that he helped her get her spending under control.

In one shock admission he revealed the designer was spending £85,000 just on plants for the office.

David thought to himself that she had a real passion for plants, but it was an expensive one – around £70,000 a year. On top of that, she was paying someone £15,000 a year just to water them, and that wasn’t even the full cost!

He went to see her and decided to be completely honest, not knowing how she would respond.

I told Victoria we needed to completely overhaul the business, and that it would be a difficult process. After I finished speaking, she was quiet for a moment before responding.

Honestly, it really stung to hear those criticisms, but I tried to accept them. It was tough because my background isn’t in traditional business – I came from the world of entertainment, not business school. I felt a bit out of my depth, but I was determined to learn.

‘I didn’t realise it at the time but the waste was mind-blowing.

Looking back, I realize I let things get out of hand. I once approved fifteen different interior linings for jackets, and even arranged for things like oddly specific items – flowing chairs shipped from across the globe. It sounds crazy now, but I let it happen at the time.

I suspect a big part of the issue was that people were hesitant to disagree with me. My position gave me a certain influence, and people seemed to assume I wasn’t accustomed to facing rejection or hearing the word ‘no’.

Mel B’s ‘hurtful’ comment

Victoria remembered a hurtful comment Mel B made after she expressed her reluctance to participate in the Spice Girls’ reunion tour.

She attended their first reunion in 2008, but chose not to participate when they reunited again in 2019.

Since then, Mel B has repeatedly expressed her wish to tour again and has publicly criticized Victoria for choosing not to join.

Victoria admitted she was upset by something Melanie B (Scary Spice) said. She explained that Melanie B recently told her, “Don’t forget where you’ve come from,” which bothered her.

She recently shared something that bothered her: Melanie B reminded her, “Don’t forget your roots.”

She firmly stated that she’s never forgotten her roots and always remembers that her success started with being known as Posh Spice.

‘She might have been grumpy but she was actually great.

Celebrating the Spice Girls was great, but the 2008 tour made me realize performing on stage wasn’t for me anymore. I had enjoyed it, but my passions had changed.

Victoria has a naughty sense of humour

Queen Victoria was known for her serious public image, but those who knew her privately saw a playful and mischievous side.

During a fitting session, the designer was shown adjusting a pair of shorts on a model, highlighting their work with the garment.

While trying on the dress, she accidentally brushed against the model’s underwear and immediately apologized, saying, ‘Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry!’

Victoria and the model both started laughing, and Victoria exclaimed, “Don’t pull her pants down! This isn’t that kind of film, and definitely not for Netflix!”

The conversation with her fashion team quickly shifted to her husband David’s chickens, which he kept at their country home in the Cotswolds.

When asked about her chicken coop, Victoria described it as ‘impressive,’ then playfully added, ‘You should see the rooster! It’s magnificent.’

A ‘rude moment’ with Donatella Versace

The singer shared that she’s always been passionate about fashion, and confessed to spending the Spice Girls’ clothing budget on Gucci dresses, while the other members preferred finding bargains at thrift stores.

I’ll never forget when she got her big break! Back in 1997, Donatella Versace personally invited her to a fashion show and even flew her to Milan on a private jet. It was incredible to witness the start of something huge!

Victoria went to Versace to choose an outfit for the show and decided on her signature style: a classic little black dress.

Honestly, the dress just didn’t fit right off the rack, so I ended up having it tailored. I asked the staff to cinch in the waist, shorten it a bit, and remove the sleeves to get the perfect look. It’s always worth the extra effort to get clothing that truly flatters your figure!

‘I basically redesigned the whole dress,’ Victoria mused. ‘I can’t believe I did that. So rude!’

As expected, Donatella wasn’t happy with the decision. She even appeared in Victoria’s documentary to advise against it, simply stating, ‘You shouldn’t do it. That’s how I feel.’

When asked about Victoria’s confident attitude, Donatella admitted she was taken aback, even wondering how Victoria had the nerve to act that way.

Yet she conceded: ‘Then I realised it was better on her the way she did it. She knows her body.’

David ‘mum-guilted’ her into going back on tour

Victoria was starting to become well-known in the fashion industry when she unexpectedly found herself drawn back into music.

She shared that while she was working with Roland Mouret, the other members of the Spice Girls let her know they were planning a tour…

‘David was like, “it’s really good for the kids to see you do this”, he mum-guilted me!’

The camera then cut to David reasoning: ‘Our kids weren’t around to see their mum be a Spice Girl!

Victoria happily signed on for the 2008 Spice Girls reunion tour, saying it felt good to revisit her ‘Posh Spice’ persona after so many years and to perform with the group again.

The Spice Girls reformed again in 2019, however this time Victoria refused to join them.

Victoria shared that while she enjoyed celebrating the Spice Girls, the 2008 tour made her realize she no longer felt at home performing on stage. She admitted it had been a fun experience, but it wasn’t her true passion anymore.

The real reason that Victoria doesn’t smile

Victoria became well-known for her serious expression and rarely smiled in public.

Victoria Beckham recently explained why she avoids smiling for photos on the red carpet, and the reason involves her husband, David.

She explained that she’d always appeared unhappy in photos for years because this particular person consistently stood to her left on the red carpet.

I recently noticed something odd: when I smile, it naturally curves to the left. If I try to smile with the right side of my mouth first, it actually makes me look sick.

‘So I’m smiling on the inside but no one ever sees it – so that’s why I look so moody.’

Victoria hasn’t had chocolate in THREE decades

A recent scene showed Victoria preparing to attend a royal dinner with David, hosted by King Charles and Queen Camilla in February.

Oh my gosh, right before she left, it was the sweetest thing! He went to the kitchen and pulled out a little Wispa – a *Cadbury* Wispa, can you believe it?! – and offered it to her. It was just… perfect. I swear, he notices everything. It was such a small gesture, but it completely melted my heart!

Victoria looked surprised and said she hadn’t eaten chocolate since the 1990s and didn’t plan to start.

Despite generally appearing virtuous, she did have one indulgence: she promptly began drinking a large glass of red wine.

David was eager to leave, so he turned to her and asked if she wanted to bring the item in the car. He suggested putting it in a sippy cup with a straw.

Victoria then quipped: ‘Should put it through an intravenous drip, let’s be honest!’

Brooklyn’s shock cameo

Despite a reported rift with Victoria Beckham, Brooklyn Beckham and his wife, Nicola Peltz, surprisingly showed up in her docuseries.

This couple has been estranged from the rest of the family for months, and they haven’t been seen with Brooklyn’s parents since the day after Christmas last year.

However, they do have a very brief appearance in Victoria’s new Netflix series, which explores the highs and lows of her fashion business.

During filming at Victoria’s Paris Fashion Week show in September 2024, the designer shared a heartfelt speech about wanting to make her loved ones and team feel proud.

The video quickly switches between shots of Victoria’s colleagues, while Brooklyn and Nicola are visible chatting with partygoers in the background.

Victoria’s husband, David, and their children – Romeo, 23, Cruz, 20, and Harper, 14 – received more attention on screen, with the cameras happily showing them seated in the front row before the show began.

Victoria’s eating disorder battle

During a heartfelt conversation, Victoria shared that she had struggled with an eating disorder. She became skilled at concealing it, even from those closest to her, and successfully kept it hidden from her family.

She admitted she lost confidence and self-esteem, and letting those feelings consume her made it difficult to recognize herself when she looked in the mirror.

I honestly don’t know if I was ever truly ‘in shape.’ When you’re constantly focused on your appearance, it’s easy to lose perspective. I was incredibly self-critical and never felt satisfied with how I looked. I’ve gone through phases of being both heavier and very thin, and dealing with those changes has been challenging.

I felt powerless over the stories and photos circulating about me, and I think I wanted to regain some control. I tried to do that through my appearance – specifically, what I wore and how much I weighed. Looking back, I realize I was controlling my weight in a very damaging way.

I’ve realized, looking back, that having an eating disorder made me incredibly skilled at keeping secrets. I just couldn’t bring myself to be honest with my parents about what I was going through.

I’ve never discussed this openly, but it truly impacts you when you’re repeatedly told you don’t measure up. I think that feeling has been with me throughout my life.

She shared that her struggles with body image started in her teens when she was accepted into the Laine Theatre school in Epsom, Surrey.

She remembered feeling different from other girls, and that’s when people started commenting on her looks and weight.

I recall a teacher at my theatre school telling me that, if we weren’t considered visually appealing enough compared to other performers, they would simply have us enter from the back of the stage during the show.

Victoria’s mother Jackie added that the star was told ‘you’re overweight. You’ll be at the back.’

She went on to explain that saying ‘you’re fat’ to someone is a really hurtful and thoughtless thing to do, and it clearly bothered the person it was said to.

The truth behind her Baden-Baden antics

During the 2006 World Cup, the wives and girlfriends of the England players became a major attraction in Baden-Baden, Germany. Their lively behavior and glamorous fashion choices captured the world’s attention and caused quite a stir.

Victoria dismissed the WAGs’ boisterous behavior in Germany, suggesting it was just a bid for attention.

Victoria Beckham, widely known as the ultimate WAG, recently reminisced about the glamorous parties she attended with fellow WAGs like Coleen Rooney, Cheryl Cole, and Toni Terry. In her new Netflix documentary, she playfully admitted, ‘It was fun! I had big boobs, I had big hair.’

It was a special time. We were the wives and girlfriends of the players, and they were the players themselves. We women were out shopping and feeling fabulous!

As a collection of her famous photos from Baden-Baden appeared on screen, she said, ‘Looking at those pictures makes me smile, but when I think about why, it’s a bit puzzling.’

‘I suppose there was an element of attention-seeking if I’m being completely honest.

I wasn’t feeling creatively satisfied, and that’s why I kept finding ways to stay relevant – first as a Spice Girl, then as a WAG.

Looking back, I see I was on a journey to discover who I truly was. I felt lost and stuck, despite being grateful for what I had. I was searching for something to give my life meaning.

Victoria’s pregnancy struggle

When Victoria discovered she was pregnant with her first child, Brooklyn, she was actively touring the world with the Spice Girls.

She explained things were far from relaxed, remembering a particularly challenging experience: being heavily pregnant in the sweltering Miami heat while wearing a tight, plastic catsuit.

I kept a bucket near the stage because my morning sickness was so severe, and I’d have to run off to use it.

‘My PVC catsuit was having to be let out on a daily basis because I was growing.

I told my tour director I couldn’t continue, and he’d cheerfully remind me there were still 102 performances left.
