Vici Gaming is back in professional Dota 2 after a long break, and they’ve assembled a completely new team to compete.
Man, Vici Gaming used to be HUGE in the Chinese Dota 2 scene, but they kinda fell off. They actually stopped competing back in 2022, but we didn’t get the official news until last year. Now, with China making a comeback in Dota, VG is trying to get back in the game too. A bunch of teams have folded recently, but they’re hoping to become one of the top Chinese teams again and really compete at the pro level.
A revival for Vici Gaming

During the qualifying rounds for The International 2025, a team of former VG players briefly reunited, sparking hopes of a VG comeback. Although they played mostly for enjoyment and to stream their games, the attempt didn’t lead to anything significant. Finally, on October 6th, VG officially announced a new team roster on their Weibo account.

The new VG team includes Guo “Xm” Hongcheng and Wang “Maps” Yutian, who will be the coach. Both players previously competed for Xtreme Gaming, leaving at different points in 2025. Everyone on the VG roster has a history with XG, except for Chung “Ws” Wei Shen, who most recently played for Talon Esports.
The full VG roster is:
- Lou “Lou” Zhen
- Guo “Xm” Hongcheng
- Chung “Ws” Wei Shen
- Xiong “Pyw” Jiahan
- Ding “Dy” Cong
- Wang “Maps” Yutian (Coach)
The newly formed VG team has already been invited to a tournament later this year. They’ve received a direct invite to FISSURE PLAYGROUND #2, which starts on October 23rd. However, they’ll be playing with a substitute player, Lin “Planet” Hao, filling in for Pyw, who will be attending his wedding during the event.
Vici Gaming’s comeback to professional Dota 2 is unexpected, but not entirely surprising given the many team changes happening after The International. It’s uncertain how stable their lineup will be, considering how quickly rosters change these days. Nevertheless, FISSURE PLAYGROUND #2 will be a good opportunity to see if VG can compete with the top Dota 2 teams.
