Lou Dobbs, the veteran TV news host and conservative commentator, has died. He was 78.
Dobbs’ death was confirmed Thursday with posts on his social media accounts.
Lou remained determined and combated for what held the greatest significance to him until the final moments of his life: his faith in God, cherished family ties, and deep-rooted love for his country. Lou’s memory will continue to thrive as a devoted patriot and esteemed American citizen. We kindly request your heartfelt prayers for Deb, Lou’s beloved wife, as well as their children and grandchildren during this challenging time.
His death was first announced on Truth Social by former President Trump.
I was saddened to learn today that journalistic legend Lou Dobbs has passed away. As a follower, I’ve always admired his insightful reporting and unique perspective on world events. He had an uncanny ability to grasp the significance of things before others did, and he deeply cared for our country. My thoughts are with his beloved wife Debi and their family during this difficult time. Lou will be profoundly missed by many.
On Thursdays, Fox News Media expressed sadness through a statement to The Times, upon learning of Lou Dobbs’ passing.
“Lou, an extraordinary entrepreneur and broadcaster, played a pivotal role in transforming cable news into a thriving and impactful sector. We deeply appreciate his achievements and extend our sincere sympathies to his loved ones during this difficult time.”
Dobbs’ cause of death was not disclosed right away, and his representative failed to provide a comment in response to The Times’ queries on Thursday.
Dobbs gained widespread recognition when he made his debut on CNN back in 1980. Later, in an unexpected move, he resigned live on air in 2009 and joined Fox Business News as a regular feature.
Roger Ailes, ex-CEO of Fox, hired Dobbs as a host for Fox in the year 2011. Dobbs stood out among Fox’s employees for his vocal endorsement of Trump’s economic and immigration plans. After the 2020 presidential election, Dobbs voiced his frustration on his show that the Republican Party didn’t take more action regarding Trump’s allegations that the election results were manipulated in Biden’s favor.
In the year 2021, Fox News Media terminated the long-standing Fox Business program “Lou Dobbs Tonight” due to the host’s claims of voter fraud. However, Dobbs continued to be bound by his contract with the network.
