Veteran showbiz reporter Nelson Aspen reveals the rudest star he’s interviewed: ‘It was ridiculous’

As an ardent fan of showbiz news and a long-time follower of Nelson Aspen’s work, I find his latest revelation about the rudest star he ever interviewed both shocking and amusing at the same time. Having grown up watching him on Sunrise and reading his books, I always admired his professionalism and the way he handled high-profile interviews with ease.

Longtime entertainment journalist Nelson Aspen has revealed the most impolite celebrity he’s ever had the chance to interview.

In conversation with Kjersti Flaa on her YouTube series Flaawsome Talk, Nelson, aged 61, shared that among celebrity behaviors that make him uncomfortable, being late stands out as the most bothersome.

And the worst offender, according to Nelson, was Fast and Furious actor Vin Diesel.

On one instance, it was disclosed that the chiseled movie star, aged 57 from Hollywood, made Nelson wait for quite some time.

Nelson mentioned to Kjerstin that he had previously discussed the issue of recurring tardiness, specifically the problem of chronic lateness, related to Vin Diesel.

The situation was absolutely ludicrous. It wasn’t merely a matter of being delayed by 10 minutes or even an hour; I was looking at delays of up to two hours, five hours, or even seven hours. In essence, it was beyond preposterous.

I, being a die-hard fan, can attest to the fact that Nelson shared that when the legendary Vin made his appearance before the reporters, he attributed his lateness to none other than his adorable brood – Hania, 16, Vincent, 14, and the charming Pauline, age nine.

‘He pulled the kid card, Nelson said. ‘Like: “Oh I had something to do with my kid.’

However, Nelson found Vin’s explanation unconvincing, pointing out that the actor had ample opportunity to make a phone call instead.

He remarked, “Why didn’t you get in touch with us earlier rather than making everyone wait – the teams, as well as the reporters?

‘The money in question wasn’t coming from Vin Diesel, it was the studio who were footing the bill. This meant that if we overspent, we would encounter issues like missed flights, rescheduled travel, or hotel room adjustments.’

Additionally, Kjersti shared a story similar to that of Vin Diesel, alleging that just like her, the actor kept her waiting for extended periods as he indulged in thrill rides at Universal Studios.

It took him approximately six hours past the scheduled time, and then we learned…surprisingly enough, he ended up taking his children on every single ride instead.

Nelson indicated that even though their recent interview was online, the interaction with the Bloodshot actor still suffered from tardiness, just like previous encounters.

‘The very last interview I did with Vin was a Zoom junket,’ he revealed.

At least he won’t make me wait on a rooftop, in a parking lot, or in a hotel lobby. Instead, I’ll be at home.

Nelson added: ‘Even so in the Zoom it was two hours. I got to fart around the kitchen.’

Instead of all the negativity, Nelson shared that his most romantic interview moment occurred when he chatted with Viggo Mortensen, the renowned actor from “The Lord of the Rings.

Nelson revealed, he was so taken with the. star that he had trouble getting his questions out. 

Nelson admitted that it was difficult for him to articulate his questions. He went on to say that the person in question is not intimidating; instead, he’s a courteous individual with an appealing charm. Perhaps, he’s accustomed to such situations, Nelson speculated.

Australian viewers had come to recognize Nelson due to his extended tenure on Channel Seven’s Sunrise program based in the United States.

In an unexpected turn of events, I found myself sharing some big news with my fellow hosts and audience members back in June 2022 – I was stepping away from the show I’d been a part of. The announcement came as quite a surprise, even to me!

After his unexpected resignation, Nelson attributed his decision to the significant increase in workload due to the pandemic (Covid-19) as a key influencing factor.

Nelson stated that for over 100 straight weeks, he hadn’t taken a break due to the unique circumstances of the pandemic causing his job to shift primarily to remote or home-based broadcasting via his phone and Zoom.

For the first time ever in my life, I found myself unrelentingly overwhelmed, a state I hadn’t previously experienced due to the lack of any respite or pause.

For the past two decades, Nelson has been an established presence on Sunrise, working alongside various anchors such as Natalie, Samantha Armytage, and Melissa Doyle.

Initially, he became a part of the team while residing in Los Angeles, and continued to serve as Sunrise’s representative in Hollywood even after his relocation to New York City.

After leaving Sunrise, Nelson has released many books, such as the upcoming title “Dancing Between The Raindrops: The Hollywood Years,” which is set for publication in 2024.

He also co-hosts a podcast called Titanic Talk which is all about James Cameron’s iconic 1997 film.
