Veteran Nine News reporter Kelly Nestor’s makes desperate plea to return to Adelaide’s media landscape following tragic family ordeal: ‘I don’t want to wait any longer’

A longtime news anchor at Channel Nine has made a moving public plea after a devastating family event.

Kelly Nestor, a former news presenter on ABC, Channel 9, and Channel 10 in South Australia, recently posted on Facebook expressing her desire to return to the media.

‘Dear Universe,’ she began the post, which has received nearly 300 likes.

This photo was taken on my 57th birthday, a day filled with difficult emotions. My mother received a fast-moving cancer diagnosis at the same age, and she passed away within a year. This birthday also came just weeks after the loss of my younger brother, Royce, who I loved very much.

‘So you’ll excuse me for running out of patience waiting for you to do the job for me,’ she wrote.

‘Now I’m just blatantly asking for a job with 891 ABC Adelaide broadcasting on the wireless.’

The celebrity then asked her fans to tell ABC Adelaide she’d like to come back to radio, after not being on the air for several years.

I’m ready for a change and want to focus on things that make me happy. South Australia, I’m hoping you can offer me that opportunity – I really need a fresh start.

Fans flooded the comments section with support and praise for the former news star.

Someone wrote, “I really hope you get the job. You’ve earned it, and I wish you and your son all the best.”

Someone else wrote: ‘891 ABC Adelaide loves Kelly! She has an amazing voice that people want to hear. She’s sure to gain a bigger audience and become a well-known radio personality.’

‘891 ABC Adelaide ABC Adelaide get this girl back on air,’ another chimed in.

Kelly was an Australian media staple in the early 2000s.

After working at 10 News and Sky News, she landed a dream job with Channel Nine’s news team in Adelaide. There, she quickly became popular and significantly boosted viewership numbers.

Just two years into what she considered her dream job, Kelly was replaced by Kate Collins, who still holds the position today. Kelly was 42 years old at the time.

The newsreader was back on Australian television in 2023, after leaving Nine Network fifteen years prior.

Kelly temporarily took over the Afternoons program on ABC Adelaide for two weeks while Sonya Feldhoff was away.

She was incredibly touched by the enthusiastic support she received from Australians after her return, recently telling the Gold Coast Bulletin that the reaction was ‘unbelievable’.

‘People were just clamouring,’ she told the publication.

Oh my gosh, you guys, the producers actually *said* that! They were completely blown away, telling me they’ve never seen anything like the support I’m getting. They said the love was incredible! I seriously almost fainted, it was the most amazing thing ever!

I pointed out that people in South Australia have long memories when it comes to kindness and support within the community.
