Veteran ‘American Idol’ music supervisor Robin Kaye and husband shot dead in Encino
On Monday, it was confirmed by The Times that Robin Kaye, a seasoned music supervisor for “American Idol,” and her husband, rock musician Tom Deluca, were discovered deceased in their Encino residence, both having suffered gunshot wounds.
On Monday afternoon, around 2:30 pm, I found myself responding to a welfare check in the 4700 block of White Oak Avenue. As a devoted cinema enthusiast who’s always keeping an eye on local news, I learned about this incident from LAPD Det. Meghan Aguilar. Upon arrival, I discovered two individuals within the residence, sadly both deceased at the scene as confirmed by paramedics. The home, valued at $4.5 million, was owned by Kaye and Deluca, both aged 70.

Before the tragic death of the woman, authorities claimed they heard a terrifying combination of a scream and gunfire. Subsequently, a man was discovered lifeless within a nearby truck.
Earlier in the night, around midnight, authorities received accounts of gunfire coming from the same residence. However, Los Angeles Police Department representatives, speaking on Tuesday morning, declined to share details regarding how they handled the initial response to this report.
On Tuesday, a representative for “American Idol” expressed their sorrow to The Times, stating that they were deeply saddened upon hearing about the passing of the couple. They also fondly recalled Kaye as an integral part of the “Idol” family.
Kaye was deeply cherished and admired by everyone she met. Robin’s memory will continue to live on within us, and our thoughts go out to her loved ones as they navigate through this challenging period.

In the course of a 22-year career that saw him represent six Major League Baseball teams and two Japanese clubs, Serafini has been convicted for the murder of his father-in-law, as well as additional charges.
On Tuesday morning, details about the identities of the two individuals who were reportedly fatally shot, with gunshots to their heads according to KTLA, remained undisclosed until later in the day. TMZ broke the news first, revealing that Kaye and Deluca had passed away; they based their report on information provided by law enforcement sources.
Notably, Kaye spent over a decade (from 2009 to 2023) as a music producer for the popular show “American Idol”, contributing to approximately 300 episodes. Beyond this, her impressive portfolio includes various “Miss Universe” television specials, multiple NAACP Image Awards ceremonies, the series “The Singing Bee” and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”.
Deluca gained fame as a singer-songwriter, particularly recognized for his 1986 album titled “Down to the Wire.” More recently, he unveiled another album called “Street Rock,” which was released in 2022.
