This highly popular Netflix show, created by Matt and Ross Duffer, began its journey back in 2016 and returned for season 4 in 2022. The dramatic finale of season 4 reveals Hawkins as the focal point for an invasion from the Upside Down world into our reality, setting up a thrilling season 5 for Harbour’s character, Chief Jim Hopper, alongside Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven), Finn Wolfhard (Mike), and the rest of the Stranger Things crew. The upcoming episodes have been confirmed to mark the end of this beloved series.

In a recent conversation with GQ, Harbour was questioned about whether filming for Stranger Things season 5 was less taxing on his body compared to past seasons, particularly seasons 3 and 4 which seemed particularly grueling for Hopper. The actor subtly hints that viewers should prepare themselves as he elaborates on the subject.

Following an apparent death at the end of season 3, the final episode of Stranger Things season 4 finds Harbour in a more robust position. Despite Hawkins being in grave peril due to Vecna still lurking somewhere in the Upside Down, Harbour’s character is reconnected with Eleven and appears noticeably healthier and happier after his escape from the freezing Soviet prison that consumed much of season 4. Throughout season 4, Hopper engaged in several significant action scenes, one of which involved a fierce battle against a Demogorgon in a gruesome prison fight, implying that Hopper’s battles against Upside Down creatures are far from over based on Harbour’s remarks.

In the final season of Stranger Things, it’s expected that not all characters from the large cast might make it through, given hints that the Mind Flayer is still present and active. Given Hopper’s pivotal role in the action, he faces potential danger once more. Yet, his previous ‘fake death’ could offer him a measure of protection in season 5, as the creators focus on endangering other characters instead.

While Eleven’s powers may seem essential for a one-on-one confrontation with Vecna, season 4 skillfully demonstrated that other characters are vital in defeating him. After seemingly being detached from the main narrative in season 3, Hopper will leverage his expertise and physical strength in Stranger Things season 5.
