Vernon Kay recently shared some unique guidelines he and Tess Daly follow in their parenting, offering a glimpse into the everyday life they share with daughters Phoebe and Amber.
Typically, in many homes, one parent assumes the role of the ‘good cop’ while another is recognized as the ‘bad cop.’ However, Vernon, aged 51, and Tess, aged 56, strive to switch these roles regularly.
In 2003, the married pair like to mix things up and change their responsibilities to keep Phoebe, aged 20, and Amber, aged 16, on their toes, often playing different roles.
In a conversation with The Mirror, he expressed, “We switch between playing the nice cop and the tough cop, ensuring they stay on their toes. After all, they will always remain my cherished ladies.
He stated that they haven’t guided or influenced them towards a particular educational path; instead, the decision lies entirely with them.
As a parent, there comes a time when you must gradually release control and allow your child to navigate life on their own. This means letting go of constantly guiding them and instead, encouraging self-discovery.

Over the past two decades, Tess has consistently captured our attention on British television, with many commenting that she appears almost unchanged from 20 years ago.
However, it’s worth noting that the host of Strictly Come Dancing attributes her timeless elegance more to an unusual exercise regimen rather than dieting.
Last month, Tess disclosed during an interview with The Mirror that she is still able to wear the same size jeans she did in her twenties.
She shared with the publication: “I’m still fitting into the same jean size as I did in my twenties, but this isn’t due to dieting – it’s a result of consistent maintenance.
Previously, she’s shared with her followers how she maintains her flawless physique, which includes jogging on a treadmill as she enjoys Netflix series, performing morning skipping exercises, and even bouncing around in her own backyard on a trampoline.
Tess attributes daily yoga not only to her physical fitness but also to her mental health, and she expresses her passion for swimming as well.
2021 found me eagerly sharing with TopMob that my daily routine includes a 20-minute virtual yoga session – a mini self-care ritual that feels like a personal act of love.
Discovering yoga has been a life-altering experience for me. It promotes agility, vitality, and alleviates discomfort – all without cost, as there are numerous free resources available online on YouTube.

For some time now, I’ve been dedicated to fitness, working out a couple of days each week. This includes online sessions with a trainer, which are excellent for improving both physical and mental strength. Yoga, in particular, is wonderful because it encourages mindfulness – being present without worry or doubt.
However, Tess’s fitness routine isn’t limited to yoga alone; she also shared her strategy for enjoying Netflix without feeling guilty.
2021 saw her share with Women’s Health UK that she found a way to combine her love for Netflix and exercise: running 5 kilometers on a treadmill while watching her favorite shows. She admitted that she wouldn’t typically watch TV during the day, but the treadmill allows her to justify this leisure activity.
Besides running, Tess equally cherishes swimming, trampolining, and jumping rope – an activity she finds invigorating and reminiscent of childhood playtimes.
In conversation about Health & Wellbeing in 2020, Tess shared her enthusiasm: “I genuinely love swimming, I also enjoy jumping rope and bouncing on a trampoline. We have a small outdoor trampoline at home which is fantastic as it helps stimulate the lymphatic system and improves circulation.
Occasionally, I engage in a five-minute jumping rope session at the beginning of my day – one minute on followed by one minute off. This is fantastic as it invigorates my body system. If you’re experiencing morning fatigue, this could be an excellent solution – I’d argue even better than a cup of coffee! And the best part? It’s budget-friendly and convenient; grab a skipping rope from Amazon, and it’ll be delivered to you the very next day for only a few pounds.
Feel free to do indoor jumping if the weather outside is unfavorable. This workout is designed for all kinds of weather, helping boost circulation, awakening you, and maintaining your physique. I personally find skipping a delightful activity that brings a cheerful expression to your face.
I strongly suggest this to anyone I meet since it’s simple yet evokes feelings of childhood nostalgia. It reawakens portions of your body that have been dormant for a while. The experience is synchronous – everything moves in unison, creating a pleasant sensation. It increases endorphins and offers a quick pick-me-up.
