Vera star shares farewell message after final ever episode

Actress Brenda Blethyn, known for her role on Vera, has posted a goodbye note to fans after the last episode of the ITV crime series aired.

After a run of 14 years, the beloved TV series concluded this week, marking the farewell of Vera Stanhope, Detective Blethyn’s cherished character, in its last episode.

After the broadcast of the episode, Blethyn expressed gratitude towards fans for their “continuous warmth and kindness” throughout the years.

I wanted to express my gratitude from the bottom of my gaming heart to all of you who showered me with kind words following the end of Vera. Every moment spent crafting that series was a joy, and I’ll truly miss it.

The global kindness and support from fans added an extra touch of magic. From the deepest part of my heart, thank you. Best, Brenda x

Earlier, Blethyn had shared her reason for leaving the show – she felt it was time to devote more attention to her loved ones.

Last month, she expressed that it had been a difficult choice. She mentioned that by March, which is usually the time she prepares to return, she might be shedding tears instead.

Despite my strong attachment to everything here, I have a family waiting at home who I haven’t spent a summer with in 14 years. It was an eye-opening moment for me.

I just couldn’t help myself; I started another series. To be honest, I felt it was the right time to move on.

Regarding the possibility of a new series, either a spin-off or prequel, taking over from Vera since it has concluded, Blethyn expressed: “To be honest, I’m not convinced that they usually succeed.

I adored ‘Morse’ and enjoyed ‘Endeavour’, its predecessor, but I found no shared themes or continuity between them. They seemed more like different period dramas rather than related shows. The same can be said for the prequel to ‘Prime Suspect’, titled ‘Prime Suspect 1973’.
