Vera star Brenda Blethyn reflects on finale scene that broke her heart
As a devoted fan of “Vera,” I must say that I am both excited and saddened by the upcoming conclusion of this iconic series. Brenda Blethyn‘s heartfelt revelation about a particularly emotional scene from the final episodes has only heightened my anticipation. The bond between Vera and DC Kenny Lockhart, portrayed so beautifully by Jon Morrison, is something I have cherished over the past 14 years.
Vera star, Brenda Blethyn, has shared that a particular scene from the last episodes of the series left her feeling deeply moved.
In April, it was revealed that the 14th season of the ITV crime drama would mark its conclusion, coming as a two-part series in the upcoming year. This signifies the end of a 14-year journey for this popular television show.
Prior to the final episode, Blethyn opened up to RadioTimes about her time on the set, revealing that a specific scene was “moving” to film.
In one part of the story, Vera and Detective Constable Kenny Lockhart (portrayed by Jon Morrison) were featured. Reading the script for this scene was heart-wrenching, and filming it was an emotional experience. When everything was finished, Jon called me up.
He expressed his gratitude by saying, “I simply wanted to thank you for providing us with 14 years of collaboration.” Such a polite man he is. However, I reciprocated his thanks and made it clear that I wouldn’t consider doing any more projects without him – a statement that holds true.
As a devoted viewer, I eagerly anticipate the upcoming episodes airing on January 1st and 2nd. These episodes find me summoned to the banks of the Tyne, as the body of a young man is unearthed. From what I gather from the synopsis, this tale promises an intricate tapestry of a fractured relationship, hidden love, unresolved grudges, remorse, and deceit.
As a gamer, I’ve often found myself in tough situations where I have to make difficult decisions. Just like that, I’ve been grappling with the choice to step away from my role, a decision I made known earlier this month. By March, when I would usually be gearing up for my return, I expect there will be tears.
Although I enjoyed every bit of it, I have a family waiting at home who I haven’t spent a summer with in 14 years. So, I agreed to do another series because I found it difficult to leave, but ultimately, it was the right moment for me to move on. That’s all there is to it.
The final episodes of Vera air on ITV1 on January 1 and January 2.
