People on vacation saw tennis star Venus Williams riding in a golf cart while getting ready for her wedding to actor Andrew Preti on an island in Italy.
The 45-year-old reportedly was set to marry actor Andrea Preti on the island of Ischia on Friday.
Tourists in Sant’Angelo village spotted her on Thursday wearing a white dress and sun hat while riding in the back of a golf cart. The cart had ‘Mrs Preti’ written on it.
Venus Williams announced her engagement to Preti after winning a match at the D.C. Open in July. She shared the news during an interview following her victory over Peyton Stearns.
People at the wedding said retired tennis star Serena Williams was also in the golf cart with her sister. Guests were wearing T-shirts showing support for either the bride or groom, but those aren’t visible in the photos.
Someone who saw what happened said the group left their taxis and got into golf carts while people waited for the bus. Another person mentioned calling out Venus’s name, and she turned around when she heard it.
Although the photo was taken from a distance, it looked like she was wearing a sun hat that said ‘SIG RA PETRI’.
Sig. ra is an abbreviation for the Italian word ‘Signora’, which translates to Mrs in English.
In recent years, Williams has generally preferred to keep her private life private. She was previously reported to have dated model Elio Pis in 2012 and financier Nicholas Hammond in 2017.
According to IMDb, her fiancé, 37-year-old Preti, works as a model, actor, and director. He spent his childhood in Denmark before relocating to Italy when he was a teenager.
He received training at the Susan Batson Academy in New York City and went on to write, direct, and star in the 2014 independent film, One More Day.
He’s also been on a number of Italian television shows, such as the drama series *A Professor* and the 2023 reality show *Temptation*.
She just announced her engagement in July, revealing during the DC Open that her fiancé was in the audience and supportive of her continuing to play.
She added: ‘He’s never seen me play.’
Serena Williams is one of the greatest athletes of all time, having won four Olympic gold medals and earned over $42 million in prize money throughout her career.
She had previously mentioned that she wasn’t interested in getting married or having a traditional settled life in the future.
She shared with Cosmopolitan in 2021 that many of her friends are surprised when she says she’s happy with her life and has no desire to change it.
She firmly stated she wasn’t feeling pressured, even though others didn’t believe her. They kept warning her she was running out of time, but she’d tell them to calm down, explaining that while they felt urgency, she didn’t – and she truly meant it.
In a 2021 interview with ESPN’s Chrissie Evert, Serena Williams playfully discussed her personal life, joking that she was very single and perhaps even difficult to date.
A year later, in 2022, she candidly discussed how it can be ‘easy to get stuck in a single life.’
