Venom: The Last Dance director explains why Michelle Williams didn’t return

As a gamer who has spent countless hours navigating the virtual worlds of action-packed movies, I must say that the upcoming “Venom 3: The Last Dance” is shaping up to be an exhilarating ride! The decision to isolate Eddie and Venom, forcing them to rely solely on each other, feels like a bold move reminiscent of a survival game where you’re stranded on an island with your trusty sidekick.

Venom 3 director Kelly Marcel has explained Michelle Williams’ absence from the Marvel film.

Following the occurrences in “Venom: Let There Be Carnage”, the storyline of “The Last Dance” unfolds, as Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) and Venom find themselves evading pursuits from both their realms.

In a seemingly impossible situation, Eddie and Venom are compelled to take a heartrending action as all hope appears extinguished, signifying their final dance together.

In the latest Venom film, Hardy once again took on the title character, but notably absent was Williams, who had portrayed Anne Weying, Eddie’s fiancée, in the initial two Venom movies.

Marcel clarified to The Hollywood Reporter that Williams was not present in the initial film for “Venom 3,” as this installment emphasizes the bond between Eddie and Venom, exploring their relationship using a road trip narrative style.

As a gamer, I aimed to place them in an unfamiliar territory. I yearned to strip them of their familiar surroundings and connections, leaving only the bond they share as their support system. That way, they’d be fully immersed in this new world together.

It was clear to us that our goal was for them to achieve a harmonious relationship, one in which they’d agree to be the Lethal Protectors, embarking on this adventure side by side.

She went on to say: “Indeed, it’s quite perilous for them when they are together, as their presence puts the world in jeopardy. Consequently, they realize that their decision leads to their own demise. As a result, all characters from the previous films, with the exception of Mrs. Chen portrayed by Peggy Lu, were not suitable for this journey’s narrative.

In the concluding film of the trilogy, both Stephen Graham reprises his role as Patrick Mulligan and Peggy Lu returns as Mrs. Chen.

In the movie, both Chiwetel Ejiofor and Rhys Ifans are present, yet they don’t reprise their roles from Marvel as Karl Mordo and Curt Connors/The Lizard. Instead, they take on new characters.

Initial responses to the movie have been predominantly favorable, as expressed by Digital Spy’s film editor, Ian Sandwell, who stated: “Venom: The Last Dance stands out as the most enjoyable among the series.

This adventure is mainly humorous and heartwarming, featuring Eddie and Venom as they embark on a fugitive-style road trip reminiscent of Thelma & Louise. Expect singing in the car and dog rescue missions, and you may find yourself tearing up too.

Venom: The Last Dance is released in cinemas on October 25.
