Venice Film Festival welcomes its first stars as Jenna Ortega arrives ahead of Beetlejuice sequel premiere alongside Golden Lion winner Sigourney Weaver

As a dedicated film enthusiast with decades of movie-watching under my belt, I must say that this year’s Venice International Film Festival promises to be a star-studded affair! From the iconic Sigourney Weaver receiving the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement to the highly anticipated sequel of Joker, it’s an exciting time for cinema lovers like me.

Jenna Ortega and Sigourney Weaver have made their way to Venice earlier than usual, as the city’s yearly Film Festival starts this coming Wednesday.

Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will open the festival on August 28.

As a lifestyle expert, I’m thrilled to share that I myself am set to be honored with the illustrious Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement award during the upcoming festival. It’s a moment I hold dear, acknowledging the journey and contributions made throughout my career in the world of cinema.

Before getting the award, Sigourney expressed her feelings as follows: ‘I’m deeply grateful to be awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement by La Biennale di Venezia.’

Accepting this honor is a shared privilege for me, alongside every filmmaker and collaborator I’ve worked with over the years. I gratefully receive this award as a tribute to everyone who has contributed to making our films come alive.

2024 marks the date for the 81st edition of the Venice International Film Festival, which is arranged by La Biennale di Venezia. This prestigious event will take place on the Lido di Venezia from the 28th of August to the 7th of September.

Along with Sigourney Weaver and the cast of Beetlejuice, a number of high-profile celebrities are anticipated to arrive in Venice in the following days.

George Clooney and his wife Amal have arrived in town ahead of the premiere of their upcoming film, “Wolfs.” Directed by Jon Watts, this highly anticipated heist thriller brings George together once again with his “Ocean’s Eleven” co-star Brad Pitt.

Both George and Brad will be attendance at the September 1 screening.

Brad’s former spouse, Angelina Jolie, will also be present in Venice for the promotion of the movie titled Maria, where she portrays renowned opera figure Maria Callas.

Reports show that the schedules are planned in a way to avoid simultaneous attendance of the contentious pair, who have been engaged in a legal battle for eight long years since their separation, at the film festival.

On September 4, a significant upcoming event is the premiere of “Joker: Folie à Deux.” This sequel will see actors Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga gracefully walk the Venice Film Festival red carpet.

Daniel Craig is also expected to attend the festival as he’s there to publicize his upcoming film titled “Queer,” which has its screening scheduled for September 3.

As a connoisseur of the vibrant world of lifestyle, I find myself delighted to share that esteemed artists Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton have graced our city this week, immersing themselves in the captivating atmosphere of Venice for Pedro Almodóvar’s highly anticipated English-language debut film, “The Room Next Door.” Meanwhile, the exceptional Nicole Kidman will captivate audiences on August 30 with her enthralling erotic thriller, “Babygirl,” further enriching our cultural tapestry.

Pupi Avati’s The American Backyard will close the festival on September 7.
