As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that this shift in location for VCT Ascension Pacific 2024 from Tokyo to Jakarta has piqued my interest. While I’ve never been to either city, the prospect of witnessing top-tier Valorant action in a new setting is always exciting!
Riot mentions signficant event production delays and quality concerns.
Riot Games announced a significant change for the upcoming VCT Ascension Pacific 2024 tournament. Instead of being held in Tokyo, Japan, the event will now be staged in Jakarta, Indonesia.
VCT Ascension Pacific 2024 goes to Indonesia
Due to issues with production delays for major events and worries about the tournament’s quality, Riot Games and their Valorant Esports team have chosen to relocate Ascension Pacific to Jakarta, Indonesia.
In simpler terms, Riot Games expressed that reaching this decision wasn’t straightforward, but they appreciate the backing of their Indonesian fanbase. Their enthusiasm and dedication significantly influenced their choice to host the tournament in Jakarta.
New VCT Ascension Pacific 2024 schedule and format
The VCT Ascension Pacific tournament, originally set for an undisclosed date in Tokyo, has been rescheduled to take place from September 20th to 29th, 2024. As per Riot’s statement, the initial format was quite limited in Tokyo. However, with a new location, the competition will now follow a double elimination bracket system and feature 10 teams over a span of eight days. Matches will consist of three games each, while both the lower finals and grand finals will comprise five matches each.
Why was VCT Ascension Pacific 2024 moved away from Tokyo, Japan?
Riot Games offered more information about the previously mentioned setbacks and issues with quality. They referred to this action as something essential for the wellbeing of their teams and community.
In Tokyo, we found ourselves unable to come up with an acceptable solution that meets our desired event quality standards. Proceeding with the current plan might necessitate sacrifices on overall quality and accessibility for our fans throughout APAC. Our concerns include limited broadcast possibilities, inflexible format modifications, and challenging competitive circumstances for our teams.
In Tokyo as the host city, the competition’s structure underwent significant changes. Instead of the traditional format, the Group Stage was structured based on a tweaked GSL setup, followed by a series of single-elimination matches over the course of seven days.
Riot revealed plans for live viewing parties in Japan, but details are not yet available.
