Vanessa Feltz’s ex fiancé Ben Ofoedu refers to her as a ‘chubby blonde’ after she discussed her difficult weight battle

As a seasoned observer of human nature, I find myself deeply moved by the poignant tales of Vanessa and Ben. Their stories are a stark reminder that love, though beautiful, can often be complex and fraught with challenges.

As a devoted admirer, I once referred to my former fiancée, Vanessa Feltz, as a ‘chubby blonde.’ However, this was after she courageously shared her struggle with weight loss and self-image. In retrospect, I regret the choice of words, given the sensitivity of the topic and the respect she deserves for her vulnerability in discussing it.

Last year in February, the 52-year-old singer and the 62-year-old TV personality ended their 17-year relationship due to his infidelity, which she found out about.

During his appearance on The Shizzio Show on Wednesday, Ben reminisced about their relationship, bringing back memories of their initial encounter. He also shared how Vanessa matched his preferred type.

I had the pleasure of meeting her through my pal, Keith Duffy – a member of Boyzone who also appeared on Big Brother with her.

In the past, he’d often head to bars alone, primarily focusing on drinking rather than engaging in conversations with women. At the end of each night, I’d usually find him talking to a plump blond woman.

“He shared that information with me, but I hadn’t realized it was true until now. It’s funny how sometimes we can act without fully understanding what we’re doing.

Ben went on: “I replied something like, ‘well, it seems random, but let’s just talk to anyone,’ and he asked, ‘Why are they often plump and have blond hair? That’s strange.’

‘So then he goes, “have you met Vanessa?” 

He brought us together, and it turned out we hit it off quite nicely. We hit it off very well indeed. We’d often run into each other at different social events.

During a recent conversation, Vanessa openly discussed the challenges she faced during her childhood, including being placed on a diet starting at just nine years old.

During her interview on Loose Women, she reminisced about her past and shared insights into the experiences that caused her to struggle with weight loss (or yo-yo diet), all in support of her latest publication titled “Vanessa Bares All”.

The presenter openly shared that her struggles with weight started during her childhood, specifically when she was required to follow a rigorous diet, which often meant having only a small half-grapefruit as her evening meal.

In relation to that moment, Vanessa shared with the group comprising Charlene White, Brenda Edwards, Judi Love, and Kelle Bryan, ‘I was a young girl who, unlike many of my peers, didn’t enjoy eating cakes, I was more of a lean type that had little interest in food.’

Later, I undertook an action that my parents have never fully pardoned, a process known as puberty. Around age nine, I began to notice changes in my body, specifically a premature development of breasts. Concerned, my mother swiftly took me to a specialist to understand the situation better.

They stated, “Mrs. Feltz is progressing,” to which my grandmother responded, “Preposterous! She’s merely nine years old,” suggesting a hint of sarcasm, though I assure you, the situation was entirely unintentional on my part.

In the 60s, it seems my mother may have feared that my waist would increase and my hips would decrease, leading her to worry that I might become overweight. Given the cultural norm of having a thin figure like Twiggy at the time, this could have caused her concern.

Additionally, they desired me to be highly attractive for marriage, which to them implied being thin. However, I was already slim, and from that point on, it seemed as if she began to control my diet.

Sharing a distinct memory from her youth, Vanessa reminisced about the times when she was served different meals compared to other members of her family.

Reminiscing, the broadcaster said, “We were sharing a delicious chicken soup with vermicelli and delightful dumplings. Vanessa opted for half a grapefruit instead, and I was just nine years old.

In that instance, I seemed to be experiencing a form of punishment, yet I was unaware of any wrongdoing on my part. At the same time, I was still quite small. From then on, my mother essentially took on the role of a strict food regulator or watcher in my life.

If looking at your mother’s horror each time you lift a fork to your mouth makes it challenging for you, then what should you do in such situations?

When you’re extremely hungry, it’s not just that you might consume a single Opal Fruit offered; instead, with no idea about the next opportunity to eat, you’d likely devour the entire packet in one go.

‘It makes food a whole big thing. I really don’t think my mum did it on purpose but the net effect has been a very public weight problem.’

It came to light that Vanessa had leapt from a speeding taxi, following her discovery that her previous fiancé, Ben Ofoedu, was unfaithful, as they traveled together to a gathering in Waterloo.

After a family dinner, she encountered him in the vehicle, as her daughters – Saskia and Allegra – had informed her, via an internet troll, of suspicions about Ben’s infidelity.

Vanessa shared with The Mirror: “He was speaking in a jumbled, confused manner that I couldn’t comprehend.

“I just couldn’t take any more. The situation was unbearable. In a moment of desperation, I exited the cab and leapt out.

Initially, my jacket was ripped. A wound on my arm was bleeding profusely. I thought he might pull over the taxi and check if I had made it through the jump, but he didn’t.

Instead, it is said that he accidentally texted her a string of messages intended for another woman, followed by sharing pictures of his nightlife escapades on social media.
