As an ardent admirer of Vanessa Feltz, I find her courage and resilience truly inspiring. Her memoir, “Vanessa Bares All,” is a poignant testament to her harrowing journey with weight loss and emotional trauma. Her struggles started at a tender age of nine when she was put on an unforgiving diet by her mother, which led to a lifetime of yo-yo dieting and self-destructive behaviors.

Vanessa Feltz has shared that her weight loss battles began when her mother, Valerie, compelled her to consume illicit amphetamines at the age of 20 in an attempt to lose weight.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d like to shed some light on an intriguing journey shared by a familiar face on our screens. In her heartfelt memoir titled “Vanessa Bares All,” she courageously dives into the depths of her past traumas and offers insights into the factors that fueled her rollercoaster ride with dieting.

Her struggles with weight can be traced back to when she turned nine, as she was then placed under a stringent eating regimen.

According to a special reveal from The Mirror, Vanessa shares in her memoir that due to her mother’s concern about her gaining even an ounce, she frequently found herself without enough food and feeling hunger.

By the age of 20, my mother, Valerie, had started getting diet pills for me from her hairdresser.

As I was feeling unwell, I mysteriously lost weight. I fit into a size eight. My hips became more prominent. Underneath my skin, one could see distinct outlines of my skeleton.

Instead of being slender, I was bordering on the point of being skeletal, almost gaunt. I appeared to be an undernourished young galago (a type of bush baby). This emaciated state was my ultimate goal.

One vivid memory from her childhood, Vanessa recounts an instance where she was obliged to have grapefruit for dinner instead of soup, as the rest of her family did.

Reflecting on her past, Vanessa remarked that it seemed more like a form of ‘retribution’, though she was unsure of the actions for which she had been penalized.

Between 1999 and 2000, Vanessa managed to reduce her size from 22 to 10. However, she subsequently regained that weight.

In the year 2004, she shed approximately 2 stone (or 28 pounds), but she managed to regain that weight. By 2007, she had lost another 3 stone (or 42 pounds), only to find herself back at a size 22 as all the weight returned.

In the year 2010, a gastric band was inserted into her body, making her stomach smaller and thus preventing excessive eating. However, this implant caused issues when it got lodged within her liver.

Vanessa mentioned that she had to change how she ate due to the gastric band; it meant she couldn’t take in big portions of solid foods, but she could still enjoy softer items like ice cream.

Previously on Celebrity Big Brother, the contestant mentioned that she consumed a large amount of food (equivalent to thousands of calories) and intentionally disrupted an operation that she had personally paid for.

In the year 2019, she eventually made up her mind to undergo a gastric bypass surgery. This procedure involved creating a tiny pouch within her stomach and connecting it directly to her small intestine, thereby skipping over the remainder of her stomach. As a result, she consumed less food and felt satisfied for extended periods.

The procedure led to her losing a further 5st and she has kept the weight off since.

Vanessa often argues that her excessive eating was a result of her mental condition, further stating that following her surgeries, she found herself in a similar situation as the late footballer, George Best, who persisted in consuming alcohol even after receiving a liver transplant.
