'Vanderpump Rules' split: Brittany Cartwright files for divorce from Jax Taylor

As a long-time fan of the Vanderpump Rules universe, I’ve been following Brittany Cartwright and Jax Taylor’s rollercoaster relationship for years. From their tumultuous beginnings to their fairytale wedding in Kentucky, it seemed like they were destined to be together forever. However, life on reality TV isn’t always as picture-perfect as it appears, and it seems that this power couple is the latest victim of the harsh realities of Hollywood.

A split among reality TV personalities: Brittany Cartwright and Jax Taylor from the reality show world are parting ways following nearly five years as a married couple.

On Tuesday, Cartwright submitted divorce papers at the Los Angeles County Superior Court, stating that irreconcilable differences led to the breakup with her ex-castmate from “Vanderpump Rules.” The couple, who made their separation public in February, marked Jan. 24, 2024 as their separation date based on court documents obtained by The Times.

In “The Valley,” the actors have a shared three-year-old child. Cartwright is seeking principal legal and residential custody of the boy, while allowing Taylor visitation rights.

She’s additionally requesting the court to prevent the granting of alimony to either herself or Taylor. In her plea, she mentions that they are yet to determine which assets will be classified as separate and joint property.

On Tuesday, neither Cartwight nor Taylor’s representatives provided additional comments to The Times following our request for more information.

In late February, Cartwright disclosed on their shared podcast “When Reality Hits” that she and her husband were choosing to part ways. However, Taylor clarified later on that this wasn’t a step towards a legal separation or divorce.

Towards the end of July, TMZ announced that Taylor had decided to enter a healthcare facility for mental health reasons following their split. Earlier this month, he was due to depart from the treatment center and resume work on “The Valley,” a series that has depicted some of their highs and lows.

Previously employed as a bartender at SUR and modeling, Taylor has been a regular cast member on Bravo’s “Vanderpump Rules” since its debut in 2014. Cartwright, who served at SUR, joined the cast during Season 4 when it premiered in 2015. Before leaving “Vanderpump Rules” in 2020, Cartwright also appeared in the spinoff series “Jax and Brittany Take Kentucky” and starred in a 2017 production.

The pair began dating in 2015 and got engaged in June 2018. They married on June 29, 2019, at the Kentucky Castle, which was in their home state of Kentucky. Although they weren’t involved in last year’s cheating scandal known as “Scandoval,” they openly discussed the repercussions that shook up the spinoff series “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.”

In a playful manner, the pair remarked that instead of enjoying “bottle service” as they did during their performance in “The Valley,” which debuted the previous spring, they were now using “baby bottles.”
