Vacheron Constantin and the Met Announce Artisan Residency Program

Summary

  • Vacheron Constantin and The Met launched an 18-month Artisan Residency program
  • Three artisans were selected to engage with the museum’s vast collections in NYC and will study under master artisans in Geneva during the period

As a passionate admirer, I’m thrilled to share that Vacheron Constantin, in harmony with The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met), has introduced the Artisan Residency program. This innovative initiative is crafted to foster upcoming artisans, mirroring the mutual dedication of both entities towards art and cultural legacy. The official unveiling and selection of these talented artisans were commemorated at The Met Cloisters not long ago, aligning perfectly with Vacheron Constantin’s 270th anniversary celebrations.

Three talented craftspeople have been chosen for an 18-month residency, each known for their commitment to maintaining traditional skills while pushing artistic boundaries. During this program, these artisans will delve into The Met’s extensive collection in New York, and they will also visit Geneva, Switzerland, to learn from the master craftspeople at Vacheron Constantin. The residency will conclude in October 2026, with the artists returning to New York to present their work at The Met, emphasizing the fascinating blends of ancient craftsmanship and modern artistry.

Among the chosen candidates are Aspen Golann (USA), a skilled furniture artisan; Ibrahim Said (Egypt), an accomplished ceramic artist; and Joy Harvey (Italy), a talented jewelry designer. Their selection was based on their artistic talent, innovation, and dedication to furthering traditional methods while crafting pieces that exhibit exceptional beauty and technical skill. During the residency, each artist will produce a one-of-a-kind piece, drawing inspiration from The Met’s artifacts and Vacheron Constantin’s intricate artisanry.
