v.v. clumsy! Helen has a Bridget Jones moment in the mountains

Helen Fielding, the author of the Bridget Jones series, has consistently emphasized that her books are works of fiction and not based on her own life story.

The 67-year-old writer had a relatable, embarrassing experience—what she called a ‘Bridget moment’—while on a Christmas vacation to a mountain resort in the US.

Fielding shared on social media that she had a scary snowboarding accident in beautiful Jackson Hole, Wyoming. However, the photo she posted actually shows her falling off a snowmobile, not a snowboard.

‘At the very end I crashed into the one in front creating snowmobile domino–effect crash,’ she confessed. ‘No one got hurt except the snowmobile and my sense of practical competence.’

This unfortunate incident is quite unlike what happened to Bridget, who had a disastrous ski run, tumbling backwards and unable to stop after her boyfriend, Mr. Darcy—a character some say was inspired by Sir Keir Starmer—left her alone on the slopes.

Shortly after sharing news of the incident, Fielding playfully revisited her character, posting a funny list of New Year’s resolutions on Instagram.

Their goals included losing seven pounds and toning their stomach while practicing body positivity, starting a Pickleball team (and learning what Pickleball even is!), and actually working out at the gym three times a week instead of just relaxing in the steam room.

Helen Fielding recently shared that the infamous ‘blue soup’ scene in Bridget Jones’s Diary was actually based on a real experience. She explained on the podcast ‘The Queen’s Reading Room’ that she once made a strange-colored potato and leek soup for guests, accidentally tinting it blue because she’d tied the vegetables together with blue string during cooking.
