To mark its 20th anniversary, the film V for Vendetta will be back in cinemas next year. Directed by James McTeigue and produced by the Wachowskis, the movie is based on the well-known graphic novel of the same name created by Alan Moore, David Lloyd, and Tony Weare. The story centers on V, a masked rebel who ignites a revolution in a futuristic London, and Evey, a young woman drawn into his fight. Both the film and the original graphic novel are inspired by the historical figure Guy Fawkes, and the movie prominently features the famous phrase, “Remember, Remember, the Fifth of November.”
Fathom Events will bring the film V for Vendetta back to theaters for two days in 2026. It will first show on November 1st, but the more fitting date is November 5th – Guy Fawkes Night – which is a key date within the movie’s storyline. Fathom recently shared a trailer announcing the re-release, scheduled for next year. According to Tom Lucas, VP of Studio Relations at Fathom, as reported by Deadline, the company made the announcement with a statement about the upcoming event.
Since it first appeared as a graphic novel and later as a film, V for Vendetta has deeply connected with audiences and sparked important conversations. Twenty years on, the movie remains powerful, and Fathom is excited to bring it back to cinemas next November, partnering with Warner Bros. and Saga Arts to do so.
Remember, Remember, the Fifth of November
Released on March 17, 2006, V for Vendetta topped the box office its opening weekend, earning $25.6 million. The film ultimately grossed $70 million in the US and $132 million globally. It currently has a 73% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Over time, the movie has become even more popular, and the Guy Fawkes mask featured in it has become widely recognized, especially through its association with the hacktivist group Anonymous.
The re-releases of V for Vendetta are scheduled for a Sunday and a Thursday, which should help them avoid competing with new movie releases. There are currently no films planned to open on October 30, 2025, as the Halloween weekend is usually quiet for movie theaters. On November 6, 2026, Warner Bros. will release The Cat in the Hat, featuring Bill Hader, alongside the action film Archangel, starring Jim Chaveziel.
The story of V for Vendetta continues to resonate with new audiences today. Originally a graphic novel published in the 1980s, it was a critique of Margaret Thatcher’s policies in Britain. The 2006 film adaptation shifted its focus to the Bush administration, addressing concerns about eroding freedoms and the response to the ‘War on Terror.’ Now, in 2025, with issues like increased ICE raids, book bans, and the Trump administration’s policies impacting essential benefits while prioritizing lavish spending, the story’s themes remain powerfully relevant and continue to connect with viewers.
