US rapper Ice Spice’s ‘entitled’ act at Aussie NYE music festival, sparking outrage from revellers
As a die-hard fan of music festivals and Ice Spice, I have never experienced such a disappointing New Year’s Eve. The anticipation was palpable as I waited for hours to see the American rapper perform at Brisbane’s Wildlands festival. But when she finally took the stage, it was nothing short of a disaster.
Ice Spice was 25 minutes late and only performed for less than six minutes! As a fan who had traveled six hours just to see her, I was beyond furious. The organizers should have given her a stern warning or even cancelled her performance altogether, considering the inconvenience it caused us fans.
Ice Spice’s lack of professionalism and disregard for her audience was unacceptable. She arrived late, performed for barely five minutes, and then left the stage without a word. It’s understood that things happen, but she should have at least apologized to her fans who waited patiently for her.
I was one of the many disappointed attendees who took to social media to express their anger. One person said, “She is getting paid to show up and perform, probably a lot of money, and she’s late? Entitled.” Another commented, “Genuine question: does anyone actually like Ice Spice?”
I was also disappointed with the organizers for not handling the situation better. Instead of letting her lateness affect the entire schedule, they should have rescheduled her performance or found a replacement. They touted Wildlands as the “very best audio and visual experience,” but it fell short due to Ice Spice’s poor attitude and lack of professionalism.
I hope that she learns from this experience and improves her behavior in future performances. As for me, I will think twice before attending any festival where she is performing again. And as a joke, I’ll tell my friends that the next time I go to a concert, I’m bringing a stopwatch to make sure the performer doesn’t run overtime!
On New Year’s Eve, people who attended the music festival were angered when the main performer, American rap artist Ice Spice, only performed for about six minutes.
On Tuesday night, the crowd at Brisbane’s Wildlands was left a bit disheartened as their favorite 25-year-old artist showed up 25 minutes late for her performance.
Despite Ice Spice, or Isis Naija Gaston, being given just 30 minutes on stage, many partygoers chose to stay and fully enjoy the last five minutes, showing their determination to make the best out of her performance.
Under a vibrant pink coat and a distinctive long orange wig, the globally recognized performer allegedly sang two to three numbers before her microphone abruptly stopped working.
A stagehand was seen running over to the artist before the stage was quickly cleared.
Ice Spice threw her fans a peace sign and was booed from the stage as she marched from the stage.
Festival-goers forked out as much as $242 to be part of the event staged at Brisbane Showground, with some enduring a six-hour journey just to catch the rapper’s performance.
Dozens of attendees vented their anger online afterwards.

Apparently being paid well for merely showing up and performing, yet arriving late seems unacceptable to some, who view it as an expression of entitlement,” the person grumbled.
Another added: ‘Genuine question: does anyone actually like Ice Spice?’
A user inquired: “Is there an explanation as to why artists often run behind schedule for their performances at festivals, especially since they are present throughout the entire event? What factors contribute to this delay?
A fourth individual chimed in, commenting, “It’s awkward for Ice Spice, that’s the consequence of showing up late to work,” another person remarked.
Other attendees commented festival organisers Untitled Group on how it handled the situation.
‘It was truly impressive how the organizers stuck to the schedule despite her tardiness causing delays for other events,’ they commented.
Another added: ‘She’s disrespectful, so good on Wildlands.’
A third wrote: ‘Them pulling the plug on her was iconic.’

Some individuals have advocated for the removal of Ice Spice from the upcoming Wildlands festivals in Perth and Adelaide this weekend.
One comment stated, “Ice Spice will probably be late for every performance in Australia, have a laugh, remove her from the schedule.
Another added: ‘Drop her for Perth wildlands and give her spot to an Aussie artist.
A third wrote: ‘Tell Ice Spice to go home, Perth doesn’t need her.’
The team responsible for organizing the Beyond the Valley festival, known as Untitled Group, advertised Wildlands as providing an exceptional audiovisual encounter.
In addition to them, artists like Australian DJ Fisher, the electronic duo Chase & Status, and German DJ Marlon Hoffstadt were also part of the group.
It’s clear that Gaston arrived late for his performance at the Beyond the Valley festival in Victoria on the previous Saturday.
Organisers were forced to quickly rearrange the schedule so she could perform.
Without an official statement from Unnamed Collective, they did respond to a disheartened event-goer on Instagram regarding the events of Tuesday evening.
‘We understand that Ice Spice’s delayed arrival caused some disappointment,’ it replied.
‘Managing a stacked festival means that we have to be extremely firm with set times.
At exactly 12:30 am, we enforced a firm curfew to make sure the last performance started promptly. This way, everybody could experience the New Year’s Eve countdown together.
Daily Mail Australia has contacted Untitled Group and Ice Spice for comment.
