Upload Star to Play Baseball Legend
In the latest mini-series titled “The Eagles of Newark,” Andy Allo has been chosen for the main character. This actress is recognized for her portrayal as Nora Antony in the Amazon Prime Video series, and she’s also known from other projects such as Star Wars: The Bad Batch. According to reports, the series is being developed by Mike Flynn (East New Work), who will pen the script, oversee production, and serve as the showrunner for The Eagles of Newark.
Anya Adams, known for her previous directing work, will take on the director’s chair for “The Eagles of New York.” The series is being developed by Alcon Television Group, with plans to present it to broadcasters in the near future. The show is based on a non-fiction book, “Queen of the Negro Leagues: Effa Manley and the Newark Eagles,” written by James Overmyer.
Allo is Playing a Trailblazing Baseball Executive
In this upcoming production titled “The Eagles of Newark“, Effa Manley will be brought to life. She is a groundbreaking figure who not only became the first woman inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, but also made significant strides in civil rights activism. As detailed in a press release, the story will revolve around the thrilling endeavors of Effa and her husband Abe as they venture into starting their own baseball club amidst the tumultuous landscape of the Negro Baseball Leagues. Beyond her role as the team’s business manager, Effa Manley was also a powerful advocate for social rights, leaving an indelible mark that transcended the realm of baseball.
Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosgove, co-founders and co-CEOs of Alcon Television Group, expressed their enthusiasm about the show The Eagles of Newark, stating, “Effa Manley was a pioneering figure whose impact on both baseball and civil rights history should be acknowledged. With Mike Flynn in charge and Andy Allo breathing life into Effa’s story, we can’t wait to bring this significant historical tale to light.

“A No-Brainer” Allo on Taking the Role of Effa Manley
For me, getting involved with this project was an obvious choice,” said Allo. “Effa Manley made such a significant historical impact in sports, and was a courageous advocate for equality for African Americans and black athletes. I feel privileged and humbled to be the one telling her story, allowing people to discover her enduring legacy. Taking on the role of Effa is, without a doubt, the opportunity of a lifetime,” Allo continued.
Hello! In simpler terms, “The Eagles of Newark” is a series that has executive producers including Allo, Flynn, and Adams. Additionally, Byron Motley, Jeffrey Miller, Josh Green, and Caleeb Pinkett from TwentyFive8 are also serving as executive producers. Ben Roberts from Alcon Television Group owns the rights to this series and will act as an executive producer along with Kosgove and Johnson. Lastly, Ben Cook will be in charge of production.
Regarding the Prime Video series “Upload,” where Allo acts alongside Robby Amell and Allegra Edwards, there hasn’t been much news about its fourth and final season this year.
