Upcoming Star Wars Outlaws patch will fix major 'mistake,' says developer

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that it’s refreshing to see developers like the team behind Star Wars Outlaws taking player feedback seriously and acting upon it swiftly. The instant stealth fail mechanics have been a bone of contention for many players, including myself, as they make certain missions nearly impossible to complete without frustration.

Approximately three weeks after its debut, the creators of Star Wars Outlaws plan to roll out a correction, which their creative director Julian Gerighty refers to as an “oversight.

To finish diverse covert tasks scattered across the game, players need to accomplish goals and progress the narrative. Some gamers have discovered that, particularly during the initial stages of the game when they are yet to grasp the controls, it can be tricky not to get spotted, making these missions quite challenging to conquer.

There’s difficulty, and then there’s unfairness. Gerighty thinks these “instant stealth fail” mechanics are the latter. He told GamesRadar+: “We just don’t want it to feel unfair. And today, I think it feels unfair. And believe it or not, this wasn’t our intention.”

In these covert operations, the player needs to navigate through a region undetected when in stealth mode. This might involve moving cautiously around obstacles or taking down potential adversaries before they notice you. Currently, once spotted, there’s no option to prevent things from escalating further. Once the alarm goes off, it’s game over.

As per Director Mathias Karlson’s explanation, this update aims to introduce an intermediary function linking visibility with the alarm’s sound. This could potentially provide players with an opportunity to rectify issues before they reach a critical point, making it difficult or impossible to complete missions successfully.

The two directors appear genuinely committed to taking player suggestions on board and making necessary adjustments to ensure enjoyment. If an aspect of the gameplay isn’t hitting the mark or players are not finding it enjoyable, they aim to make the required changes to rectify the situation.

Gerighty explained, ‘If you mention today that the current storyline is hindering players from enjoying the game, we’ll adjust the narrative setting to make it more enjoyable for them.’ In other words, we will modify the story to ensure players can savor those moments to the fullest.

The game titled “Star Wars Outlaws” follows the character Kay Vess as she maneuvers through treacherous criminal underworlds, taking on risky assignments for financial rewards and potentially her release from captivity. This game is designed to engage and captivate players, but it’s crucial that it doesn’t become so challenging that people choose not to complete it – the developers are striving to ensure this isn’t an issue here.

The patch is expected to release the week of September 15.
