Upcoming Dreamworks Movie Is An Unlikely Cross Between Coco & The Hangover

I’m really excited about Manny Jacinto’s new project, Forgotten Island! I heard it’s taking inspiration from two totally different but awesome movies – Coco and The Hangover, which sounds like a wild combination. It’s been so fun watching his career after The Good Place – he’s doing everything, from heartwarming sequels to big adventures like Star Wars! He really seems to be finding roles that he loves, and it’s great to see.

Actor Manny Jacinto has expressed eagerness to reprise his role in the Star Wars universe. He was a standout in the Disney+ series The Acolyte, which unfortunately faced cancellation despite having a lot of story potential and sparking a strong reaction from Star Wars fans. Jacinto is also known for his work in popular projects like Top Gun: Maverick, I Want You Back, and Nine Perfect Strangers.

This year, Jacinto gained attention for his role in Freakier Friday, alongside Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, who starred in the original Freaky Friday. He plays Eric, the fiancé of Anna, and finds himself caught in the middle of a rivalry between his daughter, Lily, and Anna’s daughter, Harper. Now, thanks to this popular role, Jacinto is receiving a lot of interest and has revealed some details about what he’s working on next.

I was so excited to read what actor Jacinto shared with ScreenRant about his new projects! He talked about a few things already in the news, but the detail that really grabbed me was hearing about this upcoming DreamWorks movie. Apparently, it’s going to be a wild mix of Coco and The Hangover – can you imagine?! A blend of heartfelt emotion and total craziness? I’m already counting down the days, along with a rom-com and a Western comedy too!

I’m excited about two upcoming movies! The first is a romantic comedy called ‘Love Language’ starring Chloe Grace Moretz and Anthony Ramos, and I think it’s really good. The second is a quirky western comedy called ‘Stalemate’ with Ben Foster, and I’m very enthusiastic about that one too.

We’re working on a Dreamworks animated movie called Forgotten Island, starring H.E.R. and Liza Soberano. It’s based on a Filipino folk tale and promises to be a lot of fun! We’re aiming for a similar feel to the movie Coco, but with a touch of the humor you’d find in The Hangover.

DreamWorks’ new movie, Forgotten Island, is about two friends who get stuck on a magical, lost island called Nakali, according to a report from Deadline. To find their way back home, they may have to sacrifice cherished memories and feelings. Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado, who previously worked on Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, are directing the film.

In addition to the previously announced cast, Forgotten Island features H.E.R., Liza Soberano, Lea Salonga, Dave Franco, and Jenny Slate. Jacinto has noted the film shares similarities with Coco through its use of folklore, and with The Hangover due to a plot involving amnesia. Currently, details about Jacinto’s role in the movie haven’t been released.

Despite some unsuccessful films, DreamWorks recently came very close to winning an Oscar with The Wild Robot, and they have a history of creating excellent movies. They continue to focus on original stories, and their upcoming film, Forgotten Island, features promising new talent. It’s scheduled to be released on September 25, 2026.
