Until Dawn branded “boring” and “passable” as it lands mixed Rotten Tomatoes rating
The movie titled “Until Dawn“, featuring Ella Rubin and Michael Cimino, was criticized as dull and merely okay upon its release, garnering a mix of positive and negative reviews.
The movie, taking place within the same universe as the 2015 video game, narrates the story of Clover (character played by Rubin), along with her companions, who embark on an expedition into a secluded valley in search of Clover’s missing sister. However, they soon encounter a horrifying force instead.
The team is swiftly slaughtered when it becomes evident they are overwhelmed, but then awaken to realize they’re trapped within a time loop, compelled to endure the terrifying ordeal repeatedly. Interestingly, the slayer’s identity keeps changing with each demise.

The New York Times
It’s quite tedious to watch someone enjoy a game you’ve never had a chance to play yourself. The same feeling of “what’s the point?” sets in quickly and lingers throughout Until Dawn.
Polygon
The film version of ‘Until Dawn‘ isn’t disappointing just because it strays from the game. It’s disappointing because it’s dull – something that the game never managed to be.
The Guardian
In simpler terms, “By itself, we can say that Until Dawn is an average horror game, though it lacks the expected scare factor. It’s competently made and features a talented group of young performers.
The Hollywood Reporter
If properly utilized, the elements in this game, while not major, could lead to success. However, ‘Until Dawn’ fails to fully leverage these aspects, leading to an inconsistently scary experience that leaves one with a faint sense of disappointment.
Little White Lies
The movie claims each night brings a fresh terror, but due to the absence of diversity, it ends up feeling just as monotonously grueling for the audience as it does for the characters.
IndieWire
Until Dawn tries hard to be both a sharp horror comedy and a serious thriller, with varying results. However, it’s more enjoyable if you approach it as a full-fledged parody instead.
Until Dawn is in cinemas now.
