‘Unstoppable’ and ‘Wolf Man’ premieres canceled amid Pacific Palisades fire, severe winds
Due to severe winds in Southern California and a rapidly spreading fire in Pacific Palisades, Amazon MGM Studios and Universal have decided to postpone the initial releases of “Unstoppable” and “Wolf Man,” respectively, on Tuesday.
According to The Times, the stars of “Unstoppable,” including Jennifer Lopez and Jharrel Jerome, have decided not to attend a red-carpet event scheduled for Tuesday evening in West Hollywood. Amazon MGM Studios stated that although they are excited to celebrate this uplifting film, their top priority is ensuring safety.
Jerome Lopez, along with Don Cheadle, Michael Peña, and Mykelti Williamson, were predicted to make an appearance at the red carpet and screening event taking place on Tuesday at the Directors Guild of America headquarters, according to Variety. Additionally, Anthony Robles, a former college wrestling champion whose life story served as inspiration for “Unstoppable,” was reportedly scheduled to attend the premiere alongside his mother Judy Robles and director William Goldenberg.

A swift forest fire spreading in the Pacific Palisades expanded to 1,260 acres on Tuesday, escalating under dangerous and destructive wind conditions. Surrounding homeowners were instructed to leave their properties due to the fire’s threat.
Following the announcement of the cancellation of “Unstoppable,” Universal decided to call off their “The Wolf Man” celebration as well. The premiere for this film, initially scheduled at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, was canceled due to concerns over deteriorating weather conditions and evacuations triggered by the Palisades fire. According to Deadline, the reason given was the worsening weather scenario and evacuations linked to the Palisades fire. “The Wolf Man,” helmed by Leigh Whannell, features Christopher Abbott, Julia Garner, and Matilda Firth in prominent roles.
It appears that two movie premieres in Los Angeles have been canceled, marking the initial wave of Hollywood events disrupted by an unprecedented windstorm that started Tuesday morning. This storm, described as “dangerous” and “destructive,” led to a brush fire that ignited around 10:30 a.m. near Piedra Morada Drive. The strong winds fanned the flames, with authorities cautioning that such gusts could rapidly spread any ignition source into an unpredictable and fast-spreading wildfire. By the afternoon, the fire had expanded beyond 700 acres, forcing thousands of locals to evacuate the region.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Captain Erik Scott, a representative from the Los Angeles Fire Department, confirmed that certain houses were affected by the fire; however, an exact number wasn’t readily determinable at that moment.

Leaving Pacific Palisades turned out to be a harrowing ordeal for locals, as the highways became congested with vehicles, and the swiftly advancing fire rendered escape paths perilous.
For the next two days, Southern California is expected to have strong, erratic winds that might reach speeds of up to 100 mph in certain areas of Los Angeles and Ventura counties, as per the National Weather Service’s warning. Given the arid surroundings, this wind event poses a significant risk for fires, as any spark could rapidly turn into an uncontrollable, swift-moving wildfire.
The area continues under high red alert due to gusty and erratic offshore winds becoming stronger, accompanied by dry conditions. The National Weather Service predicts that powerful north winds will prevail near the fire until at least Wednesday, with wind speeds peaking on Tuesday night, reaching between 35 mph and 60 mph.

On Tuesday, a swift wildfire in Pacific Palisades expanded beyond 700 acres, fueled by harmful winds that authorities warned could be lethal and damaging. As a result, thousands of residents were compelled to leave their homes.
At this moment, it’s undetermined if the release dates for “Unstoppable” and “The Wolf Man” will be moved to a future time.
Starting January 16, you can stream “Unstoppable” on Prime Video. On January 17, catch “Wolf Man” in cinemas.
