Over the span of his thriving career, the actor has skillfully brought to life unforgettable characters in numerous popular television series.

Known for his iconic roles in the crime drama series “Blue Bloods” and “Magnum, P.I.”, it’s Tom Selleck, now 80 years old.

In old school yearbook pictures, the actor is noticeable, depicting his days as a student at Grant High School located in Van Nuys, California.

The star had a deep involvement in sports and represented both the school’s basketball and baseball teams.

Selleck hails from Detroit, Michigan, where he was born in January 1945 to parents Martha and Robert, a successful real estate developer.

In the following three years, they relocated to the West Coast and established themselves in the Los Angeles area, specifically in Sherman Oaks.

Born into a family of four, Selleck started his high school journey at Grant High School in the year 1959. After spending four years there, he graduated in 1963.

Throughout his entire high school journey, spanning from his freshman to senior years, Tom consistently appeared cheerful in every single black-and-white photograph taken during classroom sessions.

An additional picture featured the actor wearing a sleeveless jersey and coordinating shorts, standing alongside the high school’s basketball squad during a photograph session, back in his sophomore year.

Additionally, during the very same academic year, Selleck became part of the Grant High School baseball squad. Photographs from his junior year depict him alongside both teams.

Following his graduation in 1962, Tom initially attended Los Angeles Valley College. However, as a junior, he decided to transfer to USC to join their basketball team.

While studying at a private college, he not only excelled academically but was also a key player, both as a pitcher and a batter, on the school’s baseball team.

While he was an avid sports player, Selleck also studied Business Administration. 

Tom left USC during his final year of studies, following a suggestion from a drama coach to pursue acting instead. Subsequently, he enrolled in acting lessons with Milton Katselas at the Beverly Hills Playhouse.

Last year, during a chat on the Q With Tom Power podcast, the celebrity touched upon his schooling experiences and the start of his acting career when he enrolled in the Fox New Talent Program, marking his entry into the world of acting.

Instead of being driven in academic pursuits, the star admitted he’s always been enthusiastic about sports.

In sports, I was known for my exceptional work ethic. This same dedication carried over into my acting career, including during my time in acting classes.

After being let go from the program alongside everyone else by Fox, he emphasized that it was crucial for you to study extensively and, similar to athletics, that you would need to experience numerous failures.

In 1969, Selleck made his debut on television with a single appearance in the series “Lancer.” However, it wasn’t until 11 years later that he gained significant recognition in the entertainment industry.

Between 1980 and 1988, I had the privilege of embodying the role of Thomas Magnum on the popular television show Magnum, P.I.

Her garnered a total of five Emmy nominations for his performance on the show, and scored one win. 

Later, Tom assumed the position of NYC police commissioner Frank Reagan in Blue Bloods for an extended period. This series ran for 14 seasons, airing from 2010 to 2024.

He also had smaller roles in projects such as the hit sitcom Friends and also Murder, She Wrote.

Tom and Jillie have the freedom to simply stay at home, prepare meals together, take long strolls, and find great joy in their simplicity. He deeply appreciates Jillie and has full confidence that she will handle arranging their daily activities or travel itineraries.
