Unmissable British crime thriller with “rule-bending detective” is on TV tonight

Okay, so I’m really excited about this new show, Gone, that’s starting tonight on ITV. It’s a crime thriller starring Eve Myles and David Morrissey, and it looks super tense. Basically, it’s about this detective, Annie Cassidy – she’s really determined – and she starts investigating the disappearance of a headmaster’s wife. The headmaster, Michael Polly, seems pretty reserved, and the whole thing quickly becomes this intense cat-and-mouse game between them. It’s a six-parter, so hopefully it’s a good one!

Michael Polly is a respected, orderly man who values precision in his work. But his carefully constructed life is disrupted when he meets the determined and insightful Detective Annie Cassidy, and a tense battle of wits begins as she tries to uncover his secrets.

Honestly, what really grabbed me about this story isn’t just the mystery itself – it’s how it digs into some really heavy stuff like past trauma, whether you can actually trust anyone, and how powerful organizations can leave a lasting impact on people’s lives. It’s a lot more than just a simple whodunit, you know?

ITV describes Myles’ character, Annie, as a clever detective who isn’t afraid to break the rules, but always fights for what’s right, despite her own personal struggles. Meanwhile, Morrissey’s Michael is portrayed as a reserved and emotionally guarded man who values hard work and integrity, but his strict adherence to traditional values is now being challenged.

Myles described the show as a captivating and psychologically complex thriller. Unlike typical crime dramas focused on the investigation, this series delves into the characters and their personal lives. While a crime does occur, the story truly explores the underlying motivations and the intense drama within the home and the characters’ individual experiences.

Series creator George Kay announced in a statement that he’s excited to collaborate with ITV and New Pictures once more, following their work together on the true crime drama The Long Shadow, to develop a new police drama.
