Universal Orlando announces grand opening of Wicked: The Experience

As a child of the 90s, I can vividly recall the magic that enveloped me when I first watched The Wizard of Oz. The yellow brick road, the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion, and the Scarecrow – these characters were as much a part of my childhood as the games I played and the stories I read. So, when I heard about Universal Orlando Resort’s Wicked: The Experience, I was beyond thrilled!

On November 16, I’ll be embarking on an exciting journey when Wicked: The Experience opens at Universal Orlando Resort. This brand new, immersive adventure is set to give me a thrilling experience right before the much-anticipated movie hits theaters on November 22nd.

Yes, I’m following along!

Almost everyone has grown up watching the 1939 movie, “The Wizard of Oz,” which has been cherished by children for more than half a century. The experience of watching Dorothy’s adventure to Oz and eventually discovering that there’s no place like home is essentially a traditional milestone in one’s childhood journey.

The movie (alongside Baum’s collection of 14 books) offers an extraordinary and exhilarating blend of fantasy and chilling incidents, such as those fearsome flying monkeys that will make your heart race – making it enjoyable for both kids and grown-ups alike. McGuire’s quartet of novels, namely “Wicked” (The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West), “Son of a Witch”, “A Lion Among Men”, and “Out of Oz”, present a more mature perspective on Baum’s stories.

The musical “Wicked” debuted on Broadway in 2003, featuring Idina Menzel as Elphaba (a twist on L. Frank Baum’s name) and Kristin Chenoweth as Galinda. It was incredibly popular. In the upcoming movie adaptation, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande will take on those roles instead.

Right at the entrance of Universal Studios Florida, a yellow brick pathway awaits, leading tourists on an exciting journey inspired by the story of Wicked. Along this path, you’ll encounter Shiz University, the Emerald City, and many more locations, all while appreciating intricate prop and costume replicas as seen in the movie.

At that location, you’ll find a vast assortment of items up for grabs, ranging from clothing, trinkets, playthings, household essentials, and plenty of other exciting things.
